Chaos Layout Contest: Rules Thread « Thread Started on Nov 21, 2009, 9:21pm »
As the idea of a new contest seems to be a popular one, here we go...
The idea of the contest is to design a new colour scheme for Chaos - that doesn't include having to create buttons or anything like that, so don't worry about needing serious graphics or programming skill. You don't.
Any questions regarding the contest should be put in this thread, so that everyone is working from the same information and there is no confusion.
The Rules
1. The contest is open to all members of Chaos. There is no other requirement or pre-condition.
2. All entrants must create their own thread in the General Forum headed: '2009 Layout Contest: Name of entrant'. This is to make absolutely clear whose work is where and also makes it easy for everyone to find the entrants at will.
3. You may comment on other entries, but please do NOT slate the entrants, however much you may dislike their designs. This is a friendly contest and I don't want anyone hurt by it.
4. You may create as many entries as you wish. All entries by the same entrant should be placed in their contest thread. Multiple entries by the same person do NOT require multiple threads.
5. You may use any colour or combination of colours you like for your entry/ies. I now have some great ways of interacting with the forum design panel, so just about anything except metallic colours should be possible.
6. All entiries submitted for the last Chaos contest may be re-submitted for this one.
7. The contest will officially end at midnight GMT New Year's Eve 2009. All entries after this point will be disregarded. No exceptions will be made for any reason.
8. The winner will be chosen by popular vote amongst the boardies at Chaos in a poll created for this purpose. There may be multiple polls if needed if there are vast numbers of entries, with the intent of reducing the list to a manageable polling size. The main purpose of such polls will be to secure the best entry by each entrant, not to eliminate entrants. Unless we get a truly extraordinary number of entrants, of course.
9. If two or more entrants tie for the winning design, there will be a run-off poll. If the designs still tie, the winner will be determined by Steve, Fille & myself from the two (or more) tying entrants. If any of us have entered the contest, the entrant(s) will be disqualified from doing any judging.
10. The winning design will be the new Chaos layout for at least six months from the day it goes up.
11. Prior winning wntries may not be re-submitted. This guarantees us a new look every time.

Next contest will be announced/begin on July 9th 2010

I presume that this excludes the three of you from participating?

Well, if it'll reassure anyone, I have no intention of entering. I don't have the talent for it, honestly. Besides, I'd prefer to avoid any potential issues of conflict of interest if it's at all possible. Still, good point, Glance.
Also, good luck to all the entrants, and happy designing.

That doesn't include having to create buttons or anything like that. Those who can and want to should be allowed to, though.
...'cause I want mine(s) to be a package deal; you take all or have nothing.

Not a hope, Fille
The buttons are a whole other thing. If you (Or anyone else) creates buttons I like better, I'll adopt them. Especially in places where we have no specific Chaos buttons already.
But if you have visions of replacing my cool little Chaos symbols with boring stars - it ain't happenin'

And here he is, the ultimate end boss of this dungeon!
(And in the unlikely event that a last jury vote will be required, I volunteer to take Fille's place on the board, as I certainly will not have any entries of my own - and I'm Overlord of my own board, so no competitve conflict... )

HEF - you and anyone else who wishes to do so can design new buttons for Chaos if you like, but on the strict understanding that I'm under no obligation to adopt them. If I like your designs better than mine, I will (Coz I'd be stupid not to) but they form no part of this contest.
Glance - we'll keep your offer in mind, thanks In the unlikely event it comes down to the wire, we may well take you up on it

I hope you take up his offer EK, if not, it's kinda like what would happen if Eric Cantona participates in a game (I'm referring to when he was coaching women's football, of course).
But even then, Fille's designing skills are pretty awesome... If I had to guess the winner, I'd guess Fille.
@ Killerzzz: That''s the greatest post on this thread of all time! EK's answer is pretty funny as well.

Well, too bad for ye. I won't be so kind as to not let you see what you'll be passing on though. Not that you personally would have been thrilled with my color choices, I suspect.
...And BTW, that makes this not a "layout" contest, but a "color scheme" contest.
