Yeah, it rhymes in French too. There's another part to this saying and I didn't remember it so I asked today and it turns out that it fits even better whole:
Spider of the morning, sorrow; spider of the evening, hope. ;D
There's a superstition about that crushing a spider with our thumb woild bring in money, too. ;D

...I don't think it would be as efficient, 2 meters longer, unfortunately; you must lose considerably in control with such and would risk more to end up having the spider run towards you instead.
