Pedro is a very busy guy, and we're lucky we see him as often as we do. We'd be luckier to see him MORE, obviously - but just sayin'

Thanks, guys. Did you guys know in Florida they don't allow people to be buried underground? It's more or less coffins in a house - tombs. It's 'cause hurricanes are known to wash bodies to surface, like in New Orleans.
Anyway, my aunt paid for her own tomb three years in advance so that nobody else in the family would have to worry about the expenses. She was quite a nice lady.

well good people often leave good memories. talk of tombs, my maternal grandad & grandma as well but less than two years ago, there was this evil spate of grave robbing here in my state of Sarawak. my grandma's coffin wasn't spared. well at least the damd robbers didn't steal anything from her dead body as we don't put in anything 'too' valuable in the coffin when she was entombed. *sigh* u cannot imagine how much anxiety that incident caused the whole family/clan.

Sounds awful, Jang I know I'd be deeply disturbed if that kind of thing was happening here...

I have some kind of insurance that pays for my funeral. My husband has it too and my son is included in the contract. That prevents anyone that is left behind from paying for anything or even arrange anything. We just have to make a list what we want on our funeral, music wise, flowers etc... and the people that are invited and such things. Very easy and takes away a lot of the burden when you are in grief already. Allthough I would like on my funeral to have a big party with lots of nice music and no tears at all, the party has to be like I was ;D

Phil I'm sorry to hear about your Aunt's death. It was really thoughtful of her to have taken care of so many of the arrangements ahead of time. I know it makes it alot easier on the family at the time of the person's death. I hope your mom and dad are doing OK and the rest of your family. What part of Florida did she live in? Where is Savannah College of Art and Design? What degree will you be getting your master's in? Shan

Jags that is awful. It is a very sad thing when something like that happens. I hope the authorities caught the people who were doing it. Doesn't do any good, I know, because the damage has already been done and hearts have been broken, but at least maybe it would keep them from doing it to others. You know, I have never understood why people want to bury something valuable with the person who died. I think it would make alot more sense for the family to keep it or give it to someone or someplace that could make use of it. Surely they know the person who died can't take it with them. If I had anything valuable when I died, I would lots rather see it go to someone or someplace that could use it than for it to be buried with me. Shan

well Shan, putting some 'valuables' with the dead for us seems to be a chinese thing. if i recall correctly, the most valuable thing in my grandma's coffin was her rosary. the rest of her stuff, clothes for example, were distributed among her daughters (since none will fit on any of my uncles ;D ).
as for the robbers, none have been caught but they have suddenly stopped & no activities of theirs have been reported so far. these despicable robbers have desecrated graves of every race/religion - chinese, iban (one of the indigenous people in Sarawak), christian, etc... . especially that of the iban or bidayuh (my people) since the pagans among them will bury valuables such as traditional clothing & jewellery, money (YES! even that!) etc.

Phil I'm sorry to hear about your Aunt's death. It was really thoughtful of her to have taken care of so many of the arrangements ahead of time. I know it makes it alot easier on the family at the time of the person's death. You don't even know the half of it. She made sure that she wouldn't do anything "expensive" - avoided cruises and the like - in the latter part of her life because she didn't want to spend any of the money that she planned to send to three of her relatives - my mom, mom's cousin, and her sister. She was a great lady. My family is sooo much better off, thanks to her, for the next two years at least. We're OK. We were actually surprised to see her stay alive for so long - she's been in danger of dying for five years now - she was always having to go to the hospital, but her worst fear was being in a nursing home, or be a burden on somebody else, so she refused to leave her house. The last month she didn't even know where she was in the hospital; she was 89 years old. Her husband, Larry, died when I was in 3rd grade. For the last few years she's been very lonely, and I know she's happy 'cause she's with Larry now. St. Augustine. Savannah, Georgia, very close to Florida. www.scad.eduSEQUENTIAL ART - comic book art - if all goes right. The plan is if SCAD doesn't accept me, then I'll go to RIT for photography. I'm not applying to SCAD for any other field - I KNOW it'll just kill me if I was accepted for photography or art history there and went there and saw all these people working on sequential art. I'd rather avoid that and go elsewhere.
