Buff having made the first post in this debate, I'd say her position was, perhaps, obvious, DL

Assuming that she was talking about the original few posts in this thread and not the latter exchange with Glance...

Buff, the pessimism was always there. The only difference between your child years and now is it has been put boldly before you. I know how you feel. I was raised in Religious schools as a child and I went to Religious Colleges. Today, I feel a bit like a modern-day John Husse. Since after much reading, I postulated some answers, which in turn caused my original Religion to consider me a heretic. I still believe in G_D, but my views of G_D are much different than how society views G_D today. If people would only consider this, we as people all stand in a circle around G_D; some may see a face, and others may see a back, and different views create different doctrines. But in the end we are all looking at G_D; we just see him differently. A lot of pessimisms stem from people getting sick and tired of G_D being shoved down their throat by others, liken someone stomping the bible in your mouth with boots. I know many people like this. You have to treat them with kid gloves without them knowing your using kid gloves. Always remember, never throw pearls to swine’s feet and you must be as wise as serpents but gentle as doves. (chuckle) Rome wasn’t built in a day. Hang in there and Keep the Faith. Tsel

I personally was brought up Christian, and ultimately left it because I felt that none of the people in the church or events I went to actually believed in the god any more, rather they believed in the church itself and I could not be in a religion where I felt I was the only person that actually believed in the god.
That you do believe in the god is a testament to your spirit and your faith. It is good that you have a faith that you keep strongly, and in turn keeps you strong.
Since the time that I was Christian, I have personally not found a religion that I am happy with, while I believe that I have found the gods that I will follow. I also believe that there are a lot of good things in the Christian religion, as there are in all the religions. However I also believe that religion is a human construction that has been built around the worship of (a) god(s). So for me the religion and the god are two separate entities, and one is a way of life, while the other is a parent, teacher, friend, confidant, and more.
This is how I could make my original post, while also agreeing with Glance. Unfortunately I cannot agree with Tsel, as I personally believe that there is more than one god/goddess.
I hope this clarifies my position further than I had done.

I feel i need to elaborate...
I think that the amount of bad things that have happend under the name of God, has been horrible.
i believe these to be reliegions.
But if anyone of these people who did terrible acts understood their "faith" i think it would be different.

My views are not so myopic. There is simply not enough room on this forum nor do we all have the time to express my views thoroughly. Yes, I do believe in one G_D, but I do believe there are other gods as well. I believe the Nephlim in the book of Genesis are these other gods. Humans have named them Thoth, Zeus, etc…
I see G_D more as a being of unfathomable energy that we as human beings cannot even imagine. Eye hath not seen nor ear hath heard…
Anyway, I’ll stop here. Please, know I am not disputing anyone here. I am only sharing my beliefs with you all. I have not disagreed with any of you nor will I. And yes Buff I wholly agree with your above comment. Tsel

As me and Elliot discussed before i posted this topic,
It is simply to find out what people think. Not to argue, and i think we're getting that. Its a cool topic and im enjoying it.
Please be civil guys, and discuss the points and topics. We're not enemys here. And if it goes too fair, i think we can manage to be grown up and say "sorry" dont worry about saying what you think.

I have to agree with you there......people today believe that things brought up by God are what they shyould believe in........things like instead of believing in God....believing in Crosses....churches.....etc....which is only something to pull people away from the religion. IE: Crosses. People are taking an object......making it an idol, believing it is as high as God...BAD. Dont do this. Now, holding the church higher than God is another thing. By church....we dont mean a building....or some peice of land....we mean a group of people who have the same religion. So, thats the same thing as believing in people. Now, believing in yourself is one thing....self confidence. But worshipping yourself, being haughty....all that, is another. Its just another way people are being pulled away from thier religion into something else.

Religion <-> Faith/Belief
Buffy, for my better understanding:
Religion = man-made, institutional, 'for others' Faith/Belief = inner/own/self conviction
does this summarize what you wanted to express?
Linguistic question:
Faith and belief both translate into 'Glaube' in German. There being two words in English - what is the fine difference?
I am slightly confused:
I believe something; I believe IN something; I believe someone and I believe IN someone - all possible right? Corresponding noun belief?
I have faith (that is what I would translate into 'Glaube' in the religious sense)
But I can have faith IN someone - which would rather mean that I trust him, have confidence in his capabilities - but not in a religious sense,or?

Glance - as near as I can tell, 'faith' is a particularly strong belief. Beyond that, the two words are pretty interchangeable... Another one of those fine shades of meaning that the English language is so fond of throwing up
