Pretty easy answer there.
1. girls buy manga. 2. girls are usually turned off by the atmosphere and testosterone levels of most comic book stores. 3. girls go into bookstores with no problems.
Therefore, bookstores carry manga because girls buy it there. Comic book stores don't usually because no one comes in and buys it.
It's the basic problem comic book stores have always faced with the female market, they're just not inviting to the female perspective. Not usually. There are exceptions, but usually only in larger cities.
The store nearest me is a very fine-looking establishment. Unlike many comic book stores, it is in it's own building, not a small store in a strip. It is very well lit, the employees are very helpful, there are even female employees, it's clean, quiet, organized and very spacious. The exact opposite of most comic book stores.
But that's one store in my area. There are 4 others that range towards the extreme opposite.

That makes sense, yeah.
Mine is certainly all about DC/Marvel and various independent comic book companies, no manga whatsoever. It's a guys' place.

Silva, I did find the manga comics at the bookstore. I had missed them. They were on the shelves back in the sci-fi/fantasy book section. They had Bleach and Wish, but none of the others that you mentioned. Here is the catch though. They only had from 3 up and none of the first ones. I am going to another bookstore tomorrow that is further away and hopefully I will find some 1 and 2's there plus some of the other names you told me to look for. Now that I know to check the bookstores, hopefully I will find all of themsince there are a number of bookstores within about 30 minutes of us. Will keep you posted on my progress. Shan

Glad you found it Shan.
Just to let you know, you can have the store order it for you, and you're not obligated to buy it. At least that's true with Walden/Borders Express.
I'm not surprised that they didn't have the others in stock because those are less well-known.
Thanks for keeping me informed!

I am of those people who have been into manga since the late 60’s; however, I am of the club that enjoys the brutally violent manga, with tons of carnage. Like Ninja Resurrection, Devil Man, GenoCyber, and so on etc… Tsel

haven't had much of a chance yet, jags. i will do it either over the weekend or the first of the week. i am ineterested in knowing what it has to say, because i am wondering if it would be something the girls could read for themselves or if it would be to old for them. shan
