I think one can say that the gods of antiquity were created in Man's image - they whored around, fought within the family a lot, fought for power, intrigated ... - the only differentiation really being immortality (compared to Man - not always among each other). Few were those, in any mythology, who were attributed wisdom...

And in some cases, those that were were the local gods of evil...
Look at Loki: reading the Norse myths, one can't help but think that his greatest crime was actually having a brain. the other Aesir seem to hate him because he uses his wits rather than reaching for his axe.
