At the moment the problem as I see it is 2 fold.
1) There is too much money around! 2) Lobbyists
Both of these things couple together to create a situation where the people that are in power will get shouted at by many people with a lot of money behind them, and who are very persuasive (with the amount their being paid the should be).
These will then drown out all the background noise including the sensible voices who don't have that money.

DPR - I think the main problems with Parliament are those that naturally occur in democracies over time, honestly: short term thinking and a 'party before all else' mentality that means the country can go howl. The amount of money would make no difference if the system were not already fundamentally corrupt - and far too many of the MPs with it.
Laughable to think how naieve we all were when we voted John Major out for sleaze. His govt look completely innocent & virtuous next to the current lot.

Deep in the decline cycle and with a govt so worthless you couldn't even recycle them? I more agree with Terror.
We don't have compulsory ID yet, though, despite this worthless bunch. They bankrupted the country before they managed to do it, so now they can't afford it. Oh, the ironies...
