I like your definitions Elliot. Much better than the book.
I've also thought about it differently, though never wrote anything down.
For example, the monk I recently made was Lawful Neutral. Now monks have to be lawful, but I didn't like the way the book describes Lawful neutral. So I decided that the monk follows her own laws/codes of behavior as dictated by her training, which may or may not conflict with the laws of the land. She also believes in balance, the middle road, thus her neutrality.
I tend to stick to Neutral Good or Chaotic Good depending upon the campaigns. I'd prefer to do good, it just depends on whose terms I do good, whether it is against the law or just not bothered by the law.
