Well, the second season of Doctor Who started on Sci-Fi last week. I admit that I rather like the series so far. It's a well-structured and intelligently written SF series, which is a rarity nowadays. I also like the twists and turns... you never know where The Doctor will go next, or quite what might happen. And even though each episode is easy to understand in itself, there's a larger picture that builds with each season. David Tennant is rather an interesting Doctor. I like the whole manic frenzy he brings to the character. I find myself missing Christopher Eccleston (the Ninth Doctor, who sadly "died" last season) and the presence he brought. Still, Tennant brings a sense of fun to the role, and I love the way his Doctor seems a little nuts while having a method to his madness. The Tenth Doctor is much different from the Ninth, but still recognizable as the Doctor. It's a good show so far. I want to see how everything develops from here.

Do not miss School Reunion or The Girl In The Fireplace. The latter is probably the best single episode of any SF show I've ever seen.
And especially do not miss the two part season ending...
Those are the best episodes in the season, though there really aren't any bad ones...

Next episode airing here is "Tooth & Claw", which is apparently about werewolves in the time of Queen Victoria. Sounds intriguing. Will look out for the ones you mentioned, though.

saw Doctor Who this week. I loved the ep. Anthony Stewart Head was a guest star so I decided to check it out. A little lost since I missed the first few eps and I'm having trouble understanding the "Speed British" at times but it wasn't so bad I didn't enjoy the ep. Far from it Doctor Who is now on my watch list. Funny at times and good action.

"Girl in the Fireplace" was an awesome episode. It could be dare I say it better than Firefly?

I finally finished Season 2 of Doctor Who. Really good season. Without going into details, I will say that the new Cybermen are awesome villains. Their introduction and development were well handled. I also thought the season finale was excellent, though it really sucks that a certain cast member had to go. The Tenth Doctor is one of my favorite incarnations of the Doctor that I've seen. I liked Eccleston a lot, but I really like the personality of the Tenth better, and the way David Tennant plays him. He seems so friendly, outgoing, talkative, and sometimes even manic... but deep down he hides solitude and pain. There's a lot of complexity to this Doctor, and I hope Tennant sticks around for a long time. The new version of Doctor Who has grown into probably my favorite show on now. Certainly my favorite since the final season of Angel, and that's saying rather a lot. Looking forward to the Christmas Special and the next season. In the meantime, I plan to go back and watch Season 1 with the Ninth Doctor.

I'll have to say that my week wouldn't be complete now without my Doctor Who and Heroes. I don't think that any other Sci-Fi series can compare to DW except maybe Firefly. But Firefly I'll say is leagues behind Doctor Who.

When the BBC dusted the mothballs out of Dr Who recently (It had been on a ten year hiatus because for a while it had been, frankly, crap) they considered it a huge risk. We're talking prime time TV which costs quite a lot of money to make by BBC standards, as the FX are far above the level needed for almost anything else they do. They weren't sure how it would be received by a modern audience, and were braced for the possibility of an expensive flop. Inside a few episodes, it was being talked about as the BBc's flagship program, which it then was and now remains Great writing, great acting and great FX! What's not to love? The casting choices have all been inspired so far, and I've loved most of it and liked the rest. Easily the best SF show in a long time, IMO I can't quite decide whether I like Eccleston or Tennant best as the Doctor... But I look forward to seeing a lot more evidence in favour of Tennant in the future. He's just great

Tonight's episode of Doctor Who wasn't as good as the first two I saw. The Return of the Cybermen was actually sort of dull. I'm usually into alternate realities and whatnot but because I don't know the characters well enough yet (except for the Doctor). We'll see how the second part turns out.

At the British National Television Awards, David Tennant got most popular actor, Billie Piper got most popular actress and Dr Who got most popular drama. Bit of a landslide, really

Cool news, El. I think the awards are well deserved, honestly. The show has been very good, and the leading actors played their parts well. We need more shows like this on TV.

Elliot, I guess I should be watching Doctor Who.... I watched it forever in the 60's when I was stationed in the UK...and it was good...this day and age it has to be better graphics and special effects... Think I will try to find the time to watch it...

They're showing Season 1 of the new Who on BBC America now so I'm getting caught up on the Eccelston eps. They showed "The End of the World" on Saturday and I liked it it was quirky and fun. I loved that the last human in exsistence was a giant piece of skin.

Blink - don't miss this one whatever you do! It's one of the best time travel stories I've ever seen, a great mystery story and with a well developed and interesting cast of characters.
It's also the single best ep so far in the third season - and easily!

Okay, I finally got through Season 3. Generally, I liked it, but aside from a few exceptional episodes and some good moments, Season 3 has been more decent rather than great. I don't think Season 3 really hits its stride until the last four episodes, which is kind of a shame. Still, the payoff is very good, even if the buildup could have been better. The standout of the season for me is undoubtedly Blink. A very complex and well executed time travel story, and with a great concept and a sympathetic heroine. After that would be the final three episodes, featuring the return of... no, that would be telling. ;D Suffice it to say that I'd been looking forward to this story for a while, and it's well worth the wait to see. The rest... I mostly like to varying degrees, but aren't all that exceptional. I was hoping for more from the return of the Daleks especially... some of this was ground the show has gone over before. Still, there's nothing outright bad in the rest of the season, just not that much on a par with what we've seen in the first two seasons. Still worth watching, all in all. I look forward to Season 4.

I agree with you, Steve. Overall most of it was good, and there are no truly bad eps, but it lacked something overall. Blink rules I hope Sally gets to be a companion - she'd be great
