Who here likes Aly & AJ's music? In case you don't know who they are, they are sisters who sing. They are some of my fav singers! You can hear some of their music at their official myspace here www.myspace.com/alyandaj Let me know what you guys think of them. Please don't be too harsh though.

I must admit they have slowly won me over. I first heard their cover of Walking On Sunshine and was not very impressed, but since then I think they've only gotten better. I love Chemicals React and Greatest Time Of Year and I'm not sure they actually have a bad song. Definitely on my 'growing interest' list

That's awesome Elliot and you know what? I know you'll never believe this, but at first I wasn't sure about Aly & AJ. My friend kind of got me into them. My friend kept sending me files of herself singing with their songs. Then she was like what do you think of that song? I was like it's ok. She was like are you going to get the CD? I was like nah I don't think so. I just had to hear Aly & AJ's songs a few times before they actually started growing on me. Hard to believe now cause I'm such a big fan, but it's true!

I think they got better when they started edging into Soft Rock and away from Pop, honestly. As pop stars they sounded a little bit generic, but once they got the slight Rock infusion for stuff like Chemicals React, they really hit their stride. That's my theory, at least

I suspect I have more against the genre than the band. My reaction was "oh noes, soft rock... Geeze, and it's not BAD. Please, don't put me through this...". ;D If I really put my mind on getting into their music I'd start likeing them. Or prehaps hateing them... It's usually not my cup of tea though, soft rock (or at least not THAT kind of soft rock). Übereil

Hey Elliot or anyone else, did you like Aly & AJ's Christmas CD Acoustic Hearts Of Winter?
Personally I thought it was one of the best Christmas albums I've ever heard!

Haven't heard most of it. I have to import a lot of stuff, and right now that's on my 'maybe' list.
In terms of Christmas albums, Twisted Sister top my list, though. Heavy Metal versions of traditional Christmas songs just sounds irresistable ;D

I finally got Into The Rush as it was released over here. Good album, and better than I honestly expected. I had them down more as 'ones to watch' than people who are actually all that good right now. I still expect them to improve, and I'll be disappointed in them if they don't, but - a promising debut

I figured I should put this in the Aly & AJ section of course. Here is their new cd cover for their album Insomniatic which comes out July 10th. A lot of people aren't liking it, I think it's pretty cool. I mean sure there isn't much to it, but it describes the ablum title pretty well in my opinion. If they would've made it bright and cheery it kinda wouldn't make sense with the title. Plus they said the songs will be heavier rock on the album.

Heavier Rock? That's me sold! ;D
And yeah - I'm not a fan of the cover. Would have been better with a head-to-head, just faces on each side, with the moon in the middle. Title logo is good, moon is great, but the girls are kinda incongruous.
I can't see too many people buying it for the cover. And yes, I have done that. Most notably with Thunder's Backstreet Symphony which has an incredibly clever and intriguing cover, IMO.

Well we can't judge a CD by it's cover now can we? lol! Even if I didn't like this cover, but I do I would still want the CD. No matter how ugly the cover was cause it's the music that matters to me.

INSOMNIATIC: Potential Breakup Song - good start. Bullseye - I really like this one. Has a kind of 'Bangles-Meets-Blondie' feel. Closure - They really ARE aiming at The Bangles! Good! No Susanna Hoffs, obviously, but it's a great sound. Division - Still a very 80s sound, in the best sense of the word. They haven't just improved a bit since Into The Rush they've taken a gigantic leap in a very good direction. It's kind of an 80s sound but with a modern twist. Like it or Leave It - I keep waiting for the good songs to give way to the filler... It ain't happened yet. Memo to Avril: this is what a GOOD third album sounds like... Like Whoa - I could imagine Bananarama singing this... With a few less drums, of course ;D Insomniatic - This is a ridiculously good album! HOW old are these girls again? They should be too young to remember this kinda sound! I blame their parents! ;D Silence - ballad break. Good one, too. Definite Celtic influence. If I Could Have You Back - Takes ME back, I know that much... If the 80s started now, with modern electronics, it would sound a lot like this. I can't help thinking The Pet Shop Boys would approve of this one... Blush - another ballad. Slightly weak. Not sure if Aly shouldn't be singing this one rather than AJ. AJ's breathy whisper should be perfect for ballads, but somehow doesn't quite work for this one. Not terrible, mind, but unmemorable. Flattery - solid. On a worse album, it would count as good. On this one - merely OK. I'm Here - and again. The sound is a good one, but it's a bit too similar to some of the other tracks. Need to vary the sound up a bit more to create a truly great album. Chemical React (Remix) - Heh. They know what their best song from the first album was, it seems ;D Remixes are just lazy, IMO. Good song, don't get me wrong, but there's nothing so radically different from their original version here. Overall, I must say I'm hugely impressed. It's a far better album than I'd honestly expected. I think I prefer Aly's voice to AJ's, but they harmonise together very well and both girls can definitely sing. Some of these songs are likely to get played by me for a long time to come - particulary Bullseye, which I think is the standout track. I definitely like them a lot when they're giving it with the verbal strut. Their new sound is rooted strongly in the 80s, but it's unique to them, nonetheless. I like this album a LOT more than I expected to, which is always a good thing

OMG Elliot man I agree with everything you just said! Yeah Blush is my least fav song too I don't know it just is a tad bit too slow or something. It's just the song I listen to least. I know they are trying to get across the message of not rushing into doing things with someone which is a good message, but yea. I know sometimes I'm disappointed with people's third albums but I love this one! They've done it again! I also prefer Aly's voice to AJ's but agree they harmonise well together!

Good message, bland delivery, yeah. 'Blush' just kinda slides past without making a significant impact on the ear. I think it's a combo of the song not being that good and AJ's vocals not quite being suited to it. Added together, the result isn't bad, it's just... there.
It's one of those tunes that you'd not really notice if it was playing in a clothes shop or something.

I had gotten another Insomniatic CD sent to me by mistake from amazon, cause I pre-ordered it and then I cancelled so I could order it from the official site, but I think amazon forgot to cancel my order or something. So regardless I had gotten another one, so I gave it to a friend and now she's addicted to it! lol!
Oh and all Aly & AJ fans they are on MTV video countdown show TRL all this week!!!!! They are awesome hosts! I actually quit watching that show quite a while back, but now when I heard they were on it, I've been watching it. lol!
