The 80s was easily the best decade for music, IMO, so yeah, this is really hard.
Some of my favourite 80s ballads (As I appear to be in a ballad mood):
The Power Of Love - Frankie Goes To Hollywood The Living Years - Mike & The Mechanics Louise - The Human League Drive - The Cars Wind Of Change - The Scorpions I Wanna Know What Love Is - Berlin A Man & A Woman - Meat Loaf Eternal Flame - The Bangles We Belong - Pat Benatar
Might add more categories as the mood takes me. 80s was easily the best decade for Rock & Metal, and arguably Pop, too, after all.

Indeed El, that is why I don't wanna make a top 10 out of it. The 80's was full of such great songs, that it would be unpossible to pick out 10 songs alone

Here are my favorite 80's songs (some ballads some rock, etc.):
Mad World-Tears for Fears Everybody Wants to Rule the World- Tears for Fears The Wall pt. 2- Pink Flyod I Ran- Flock of Seagulls Billie Jean- Michael Jackson Sweet Dreams- Eurythmics Take on me- Aha I wanna be sedated- The Ramones Running Down a Dream- Tom Petty (song just barely makes it as it was released in 1989) Shout- Tears for Fears (even though the cover Disturbed did of it is vastly superior)
Those are just off the top of my head.

Now, I don't want to be a dick (will prolly fail, but still) but IIRC I wanna be cedaded was from 78 (though they made a video for it in 1987) and The Wall was from 79. Might be wrong on the exact years, so the Wall might very well be from very early 80's. But this means nothing whatsoever in reality... This thread is mean by the way. Finding my favorite song will be a pain. Then there's the other songs. I'll come back I think... Übereil

Among others (apart from what you've already posted above, all of you) : - Maid of Orleans - OMD - Five Miles Out - Mike Oldfield - To France - Mike Oldfield - Our House - Madness (increadibly funny ! ;D ) - It's a Mistake - Men at Work - Eternat Flame - The Bangles - Manic Monday - The Bangles - I don't like Mondays - The Boomtown Rats (it's about a shooting) - Don't Answer Me - The Alan Parsons Project - We Belong - Pat Banatar or how she's spelled - The Power Of Love - Frankie Goes o Hollywood (never liked that band, despizte of this absolutely great song) - Forever Young (one of the only two German songs that were ever a hit in the U.S. ! - the other was the "99 Ballons" by Nena, and the other one "Rock me Amadeus" was by the Austrian Falco , who had a untimely death shortly before the finishing of his last album)

Oh as you insist, Gal Status quo: Whatever you want (go on boys play those three chords) Bruce Springstein: Glory Days (it's the Boss, Nuff Said) Jim Diamond: Hi Ho Silver (As the only person to pick a great under rated song, IMO, Gal i thought i'd have to challenge you) Journey: Don't stop believin' (what a brillent ballad) Hewy Lewis and the News: The Power of Love (sorry EK, you know i prefer it to Frankie) Bon Jovi: Wild In The Streets (I'm trying to only pick one....Honest) Van Helen: Jump (Great band, shame they didn't last longer than they did) Kiss: God gave rock and roll to you (go on Bill and Ted....Excellent) Roger Daltrey: Don't let the sun go down on me [The Lost Boys] (yes i do mean roger, not john. John couldn't sing that song if his life depended on it) T'pau: China in your hand (1988, the last great year for music) Mental as Anything: Live it up (Crocodile Dundee) Micheal Jackson: Man in the mirror (a great song that we should all listen to) Whitesnake: The deeper the love (not their most famous track but certainly one of the best) Foreigner: I want to know what love is (powerful ballad) Bonnie Tyler: Total Eclipse of the heart (What a great voice) Lionne Richie: Dancing on the ceiling (Great pick you up track) Ok i'm stopping there because i'll just keep going and going and going and going....See what i mean the 80's was a great decade for music. shame about what has followed.

I don't think I'd even try to pick the top ten Rock or Metal songs from the 80's. The choice is just so vast.
I could easily name 100 great tracks from that decade, and between us all, I figure we could make a thousand without too many problems.
I think I'd have trouble with a 90s top ten ;D

Gal. I'd ment you had picked a song that is slightly obscure. and therefore had thrown out a challenge to the rest of us. In what way is music your life? professionally or as a hobby?

Pur hobby Konrad, if I could make a living out of it, I sure would. Having a recordstore would be neat. I must admit there is a lot of music I haven't heard from before, but I'm still young enough to learn right? ;D
Speaking obscure songs, did you listen to Jeannie from Falco? The singer iwas German iirc (he's dead already) That song is obscure if you ask me. Same goes for "Where the Wild Roses Grow" from Kylie Minogue and Nick Cave, but that song is from '95 so it doesn't belong in this topic
