April 15, 1923 - Insulin first became generally available for use by diabetics. This was the culmination of decades of research. Prior to the availability of insulin, children dying from diabetic keto-acidosis were kept in large wards, often with 50 or more patients in a ward, mostly comatose.

The play satirized Americans who followed British fashions and indulged in 'British vices'. Here are the opening lines:  A Pocket-Hoop  A Bell-Hoop I believe I prefer hoopless myself. According to the US Census Bureau, on April 18, 1934 the first self service Laundromat opened -- in Fort Worth, TX. For the first time, people could rent washing machines for laundering clothes. It was called a washeteria.
