I'm very sure that most of us, either through trial and error or via mistakes, have created "culinary disasters". Today, I learnt a few rather valuable lessons while cooking porridge for dinner: 1) never put too much rice(I ended up with enough to feed 3 people) 2) never let the food burn, keep stirring the pot (ack... the pot is like BURNT!) 3) don't keep adding liberal amts of soy sauce and sesame oil I thus present today's culinary disaster(How about yours?):

Rice should not be stirred. As soon as it comes to a boil lower the flame way down or even turn it off all together; then cover the pot and wait until all the water is gone.
Toasted sesame oil is delicious stuff. But add it at the very end of your cooking -- otherwise the flavor tends to be killed off.

As soon as it comes to a boil lower the flame way down or even turn it off all together; then cover the pot and wait until all the water is gone. Toasted sesame oil is delicious stuff. But add it at the very end of your cooking -- otherwise the flavor tends to be killed off. Interestingly, that's how porridge is cooked in Singapore: keep stirring it until it's done, to prevent sticking of the grains to the pot. But I guess I could try your way too. ;D Mmmhhh that explains why the porridge tasted kinda yucky especially with the sesame oil swirling in there for a long time. Of course, it didn't help that I accidentally threw in dark instead of light soy sauce.

The ratio of water to rice is 2:1 btw: 2 cups of water to one cup of rice.

At another time I put too much Maggi Sauce onto something ... Yuck ! Recently, at one ill thought, I tried to kind of recycle the rests of peanuts (only a tiny bit kind of powder was left in the can) as an ingredient into my coffee ... I forgot that the can had contained salted peanuts ...

Peanut-flavored coffee... interesting. ;D I once mistaken soy sauce for syrup to go on sweet pankakes in the middle of a restaurant; wasn't very good either, but I must confess it looked less alien than what I see up there... ;D Most of my culinary disasters aren't in the pot or plate, though; they're more around...

Me, hating the taste of diet coke, wanting to sugar it up. Resulting in the kitchen covered with sugared up diet coke. Never heard of the effect of adding particles to sparkling fluids (the mentos+coke effect).

Lucifiel, that looks awsome. Delectible. Anyhoo... I've got a good culniary disaster. ;D But why tell it, when I can sing it? Oooooooooooooooh... 'Twas a drink that I mixed, back wheeen I was six. I put milk in a cup, and fiiilled it up. Put some juice from a pickle, and leeeet it trickle, and some water in too, oh I knew just what to do; with some sugar for good measure, for a surely sweeter pleasure. Down it went and up it came, and I suggest that you never ever ever EVER do the same. ;D Killerzzz

Btw, this was what I put into my broth: onions, rice + water, egg, carrot cubes, tomato, egg, soy sauce(I accidentally added in dark soy sauce instead of light), lots of pepper, lettuce, chinese cabbage, mushrooms and clout's ears.
