SS, no offense but was it really neccessary to make just ANOTHER thread about religion? There is something else in life, you know! For you. For him and other religious people it's not something in life that you put your attention on and ignore when you pay attention to something else for a while. It's "interwoven" in life. Can't be denied and can't be used for a select number of things only. When you talk about things like these it's only normal that people bring up religion. It's just another view on things, it's nothing forbidden. He doesn't make a thread about religion, he uses religion to discuss the thread. At least, that's how I see it. And to stick something else in.....somewhat more serious.. ;D Then what is it all for....what is the meaning of life..?? Seems to me without at least the possibility of "eternity" in view someway or somehow...then why do we put ourselves through pain and misery when we KNOW....( ) that it is all for ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.!!!!!!...where does the instinct for survival come from..?? Your born...you (maybe) grow up...you die...and fertilize the cemeterys....if this is the life cycle that you envision.. then you can seriously have it....but I, for one, don't see even one bit of logic for it..and to me doesn't even make common sense...even it you are anti-religion... let alone deal with the gnawing way down deep in the inner being that there has to be some reason for being here other than that.. Denial, denial, denial....but it will NEVER go away, and you WILL deal with the feelings till you DO die, then we will most assuredly know... ;D Well I think the difference can be found in the way how we look at things. Like kitty said, she doesn't see everything as pain and misery. You as a religious person see a goal after this life and think about a "deeper reason". You could call it denial, but others simply don't do that. Instead of looking forward, they say that there is nothing to look forward to and make their own life their goal. Why do we put ourselves through pain and misery? Well because we can make things better. If I'm in trouble right now and I still have the strength to fight it, to make something better of it, maybe only for my last days, I will! *coughs* You have to excuse Kitty (as I do ), she's pretty anti-Religion, anti-God, anti-Afterlife, anti-Spiritual... A product of the Purely "Modern" Society, which teaches that we are "number one" and everything we do is for the benefit of "number one;" whether it be charitable work, so people can say "wow, congratulations! That something really worth doing! (but then as soon as they say "God bless you!" she'll whack back ). Or whether it be the accumulation of material wealth, such as Money, Good Food, Expensive Jewelry, Houses, Land, etc. it's all related to that goal of "looking out for number one." There's nothing "wrong" with this, the only thing that could be defined as "wrong" would be her intolerance of anything above the Physical Realm. ;D This is what one evangelist defined as being a "Flatlander." The Flatlander only has the physical dimension, and when we try to explain about the Spiritual, he cannot understand it, because he cannot see it. I'll explain more about this later, right now I'm supposed to be studying... I agree with you completely, ss was just "using religion" to discuss the thread, NOT making a thread "about Religion." ;D Our perspective on life affects the way we live, dramatically. EDIT: @ Kitty: And I thought members of the Mod Squad weren't supposed to "pick fights," being intolerant of another person's beliefs is one of the "best" ways to do so...

@ Glance & DPR: Yes, I'm aware of that. I was just remembering what EK said in his post "How Moderators are Chosen:" "The ideal moderator has to remain calm even under provocation and stay reasonable at all times. Someone who picks fights or is otherwise disruptive to board harmony will not be considered." But then again, Kitty will most likely say that "as long as I remain calm on the section I'm modding, it doesn't matter how intolerant I am on the other sections! " EDIT: @ Everyone, mainly Kitty: Can't we all... just... get along?

I think the OTHER main point is that Kitty is stating an opinion, not picking a fight. This being a forum, that IS allowed. She's as dedicated to her religious position as ss is to his (Or you are to yours, Dragon) and thus sees things from that POV all the time just as he does (Or you do). What you basically have is a fundamental difference in heartfelt belief systems. As long as you all keep it polite, there's no problem with that. So you can stop being condescending now

How un-Christian of me. ;D

Intrestingly, how many posts actually get made here that are non-religious in nature and don't end up having a religious component added?

^ the music threads? xD now someone will post a hymn or something. moving back to feeling oold, judging by what people have said, i have noticed a slight pattern, with a few exceptions. but i think as you get older, there become more respoibilities, particularly in teenage years when there are loads of new responsibilities you have to take up in order to grow up. but once you've grown up, things that were new you have got used to and are part of your everyday life, eg. driving or cooking for yourself, and things that were important during your teen years, such as exams, are long gone and no longer a worry, and thus you begin feeling "normal" or yourself, rather than old or a specific age. and then the feeling old begins all over again once your body begins getting older than you feel so anyway my theory is in ten years time i won't feel old :'] and to me ten years in the future seems ages away - i could be a parent by then! D: but ten years ago seems like 10 minutes ago. and does anyone know why when your little you don't tend to remember conversations specifically, say from two weeks ago, but as I get older I'm better at remembering conversations from months ago

Your brain gets better at filtering, so you remember things you attach importance to. That and the entire point of educating you is to teach you to learn and remember things

I don't care what Kitty posts in response to mine....I want to know what she thinks or I would not ask... I don't consider it picking a fight....If ya want to REALLY see a fight, come to my house when Perry and I and some others are debating religion and politics... ;D

Gaining new responsibilities should make you feel mature, but not necessarily "old..." A lot depends on you personally, but I don't think you'll outgrow it in 10 years, I was thinking more like 1-3 years. ;D My continuous memory goes back to when I was about 4 years old, but of course I have scattered memories from well before that. And yes, sometimes it seems like it was just 10 minutes ago. ;D As we get more mature (I was tempted to use the word "older" ), what we perceive to be "important" changes dramatically... When you're a little kid, conversations don't matter all that much, but when you hit your teens, then they "suddenly" carry a vast amount of importance. ;D Whatever the case, look forward to your Birthday!

@ two - If I would have needed to shut up about everything just to be a Mod, I would have gladly refused. Good that Eli wouldn't ask for that.

@ DPR: Now that's an interesting thought... @ Kitty: Well, there's no need to be SO anti-religion, neither ss nor I display the destructive fervor you do! ;D @ EK: Oh... ;D VERY long time, I have never posted with him! ;D
