It would be nice to hear about yours... Those you have, those you had, those you would like to have; pet experiences and tips/tricks too. I've had animals in the house continuously since I was a little kid; dogs, birds, rodents, fishes... Living in a home without animals would feel empty, I think, like a home without a plant. The fishes it was mostly when I was a young kid and we never really had the trick with these; we had the casual red-orange ones, the black with huge eyes and the tiny neon ones, among else. That just reminds me that I want to try to have the [pretty ones with long veil-like tails that are apparently tough and easy to take care of] though; note taken. The birds I had were all budgies; some Harlequin, but mostly undulates. I had males and females, one time a couple (that died tragically and at a young age to the teeth of my Brittany spaniel; it must have been a bit of destiny, they were called Romeo and Juliet). There was only two that lived for several years... One was a blue undulate male, who was in the end so obese that he had no feather under his belly because it rubbed on his perch; the other was a Harlequin female, very easily scared and with a weird behavior. Sometimes I suspected that she didn't know what species she was. The rodents we had were a couple of degus; they're very fun and interactive little creatures, much more so than mice and the like. They live several years too, which is another advantage beside other similar pets [well, IMO]. Since mines were a couple, they contributed largely to perpetuate their species... It was a really cool aspect of having them though, and they were (both!) parenting in a fascinating way. They were also a neat little parody of old grinches couples. ;D And finally, doggies... I had a male Brittany spaniel for nearly 15 years, and while he could be difficult and that we made mistakes as owners he has been a wonderful companion. A few years ago he died of the complications coming with elderness, and a couple of months after I picked up my little orange monster. For those who don't know her yet, this is Abbie, my 4 years old golden retriever. She's a wonderful companion too, and her education makes up for the lack that there was for my other dog. I decided to give a serious go there, went on for training lessons and all and it was so much worth it. Her main vice is probably her excess of friendliness... Again a little more than a week ago she tried to go social with a skunk and got sprayed (for the 3rd time in her short life), to my greatest displeasure. As for the pets I'd like to have, perhaps I better not get into it right now... ;D

I've had pets since I was born.
My dad's dog was a Benji-type dog that I can't remember it's name as it passed soon after I was born. Then there was a Bearded collie we had named Jiffy. I could tell you many stories about her (maybe for later). She died December 28, 2000 of a stroke. In 1998 we got a Golden Retriever that we named Allie. She was great and unfortunately she died in December of last year. Then there were the few labs we had Trinity who was my stepmom's dog was very cool unfortunately she left when my stepmom left and despite my dad wanting her my step brother and sister took her we haven't seen or heard of her since despite my wishes that someday I would come home from school and she would be there. Then there was Binky and Lucy both of whom lasted under a month before we had to get rid of them.
My dad's girlfriend currently has an awesome Weiner Dog named Rosie and that's the only thing I really miss about home
Cat wise I've had a bunch also first there was Courtney who was my mom and dad's cat but had to be put down because she hated children. Then there was Boki (or friend in Nigerian) who was the nicest cat you ever met and would be with you when you were sick. Then there was Anuli (joy in Nigerian) who was our garage sale kitty, and we took her camping with us and she would do the kitty olympics (or swing around the ladder to our bunk beds in our camper). Then there was Sassy who was a Hymmilayan and was essentially a ragdoll. The most recent cats I've had are Gizmo my Stepmom's cat who was 14 years old (at least) when we put him down earlier this year. Then there was Mercury who was a Sylkis Rex cat (very rare breed apparently) who we found in a barn we were demolishing. We adopted her and unfortunately we had to put her down despite her being only five. I love Mercury and Gizmo very much and I miss them. I will provide stories about these two later.
I would like to get another cat and a Weiner dog but I can't have them in the dorms.
Other animals I've had were a bunch of fish (most of them killed by Boki when she would go "fishing"). A few parakeets, a couple guinea pigs, a Cockatiel, a ring necked dove, and a button quail.
Dream pets? As stated before I would love to have another cat either a Toyger (if I could get one since I can't have a real tiger), and a Weiner dog or another Golden Retriever. I would also love to have a Husky or Malmute but I hear they're pains to train.

Woah, cool pet history, lol. You remind me that I forgot to add cats, 3 when I was a very young kid... Looking at the pictures of baby-Fille with them, we can deduce that they had either the temper or speed of a potted plant. Parakeets; these seem to be very difficult pets to have, being either demanding or disturbing/destructive. How were yours? From what I heard on my side malamutes would be easier than huskies because less headstrong and energetic; but that eskimo dogs are better for what is of training. I remember teckels (that's weiner dogs, right?) when I was in training with Abbie; they were funny, fooling their owners who were trying to teach them basic obedience because there's little difference between sitting and standing with these bodies. ;D

Yes they are very intelligent breeds. My dad's girlfriend's dog would ride the recliner as my dad would bring it up to get up on the couch. She would also use Allie as a step when the recliner was unavailable. Another funny story is how she would attack the little robo-dog we had because it would just make noise and not play with her. As for the parakeets I don't remember them too well. We had them when I was somewhere between 8-10 then they all died.

Wow, where do I start? My first pet that I can remember was a fluffy dog, don't know what breed though, his name was Dabs lol and when I was little he and I used to catch ants, I killed them and he licked them up haha, oh child hood memories. I don't remember what happened to him though, I hope he went to dog heaven in a peaceful way. then we had a bunch of cats, but only one that I actually remember. Some friends of my parents found her in a basement, she was trapped in some kind of heater, that got very hot when someone turned on the radiators. Poor thing was very burned, she kept herself alive by running around to avoid the hot iron, but she was still very burned. She lived with us for most of my life, she died in my mothers arms. Her name was Bidulle.
Then we had a dog named Youki, it was a Yorkshire Terrier, spicy breed lol, but he ran away one day and never came back I hope he found a nice yorshire lady to spend his life with though My parents took in some cats when they moved, but everyone one of them was found on the street, killed by a car (one reason I don't allow my cats to go out)
When I got married we had a few dogs, our first was a Labrador, Lady, she was seriously disturbed, prolly inbreed, the vet adviced us to put it asleep, but we couldn't do that. When she was 17 weeks, she attacked my hubby when he was feeding the chickens. so we brought her to the asylum, where the lady there said she wont last long with that behavior. After her, we had a Malthezer, Flortje, she was super sweet but also super nervous lol. One day, we took her to an old lady that wold take care of her for one week, she was alone and she liked Flortjes company. When we came back, she didn't wanna give her back, she loved her soo much, so we decided to let her keep the dog. After all, she took really good care of her, and the dog loved her to pieces. The lady was soo happy with her, that she gave us all kinds presents for a month lol.
Later, we took in a Spaniel from the asylum, she was 7 years, had a very bad history of beatings and being chained up. That was a big mistake, she couldn't stand women, so everytime I petted her, she snapped and growled in a vicious way. We had to give her back to the asylum. They put her down, poor thing, she had a miserable life but I hope the time she spend with us were at leat good times.
Throught the time, we had several birds, canaries, parrokeets, all kinds of other tropical birds and rabbits and guinea pigs. Then we had Sephyros, the Spanish greyhound, you know about his story though. And now I have my two black cats, Myrha and Isis, a turtle named Kyra, a gree parrokeet named Blue ;D and of course chickens. That's it, wow what a story, sorry if it was boring lol

Teckels --> Daschunds, Dashunds -/-> Teckels, thanks Wiki. I had ever heard of that breed as teckels or weiner dogs, and I don't think I've ever seen a non-miniature one. I think I also mistakened what is called parakeets; I had in mind that it referred to the medium-large parrots as well, which are those that are apparently difficult to keep. Taking dogs that have a heavy background is risky, as these often have difficult behaviors coming from it; just like a human kid would have, in fact. It really requires careful reeducation to hope to be able to reintegrate them into a normal life and most people just can't give that, be it by lack of time, resource or knowhow, unfortunately. Stories like that are too common and sad... Chickens as pets is funny to me. And blue was the name of my obese budgie too (Bleu). ;D

Many many goldfish. ;D Mostly when I was younger. As a small child, I buried them in the garden when their time was up. Later, I buried them at sea... sea being a metaphore for the toilet. A certain goldfish was dubbed Chomps; wich just so happened to be very fitting. One day, I came home and there was one less goldfish in the tank... then I noticed that Chomps had a tail sticking out of his mouth... Later on I got a painted turtle named Max. He was fun. He bit me a few times. Once I forgot to feed him; later that day I found half of another goldfish floating around. I can't help but remember thinking Max looked a little guilty. The goldfish all eventually died out; and Max I gave to a friend who could take care of him since he was getting bigger. The friend had experiance with pet turtles. I've also had two unofficial pet sparrows: one rescued from a neighbourhood cat; one from the street, probably thumped by a car. They lasted a little while. On the subject of unofficial pets, a cat followed me home one day; I pat it, and I guess that made a connection. It would show up at my house every day for a few weeks, just to hang out and say hi. The neighbourhood cat from earlier ended up mauling him a bit, and he left. Now I have a dog: Yellow Lab, awsome playful gal. Deadly afraid of water though, which is weird for labs. She's also a midget by Lab standards. She looks normal; but if you know your dogs, you'd know that she should get a good deal bigger and she wont. No matter. Fo'eva a pup. ;D Killerzzz

I was told that turtle bites are very nasty. And yeah, it's probably Max that accounts for the goldfish's disappearance, unless said fish would have decided to grow lungs and wings and go for a flight. ;D A guy I know had a turtle that ate a frog that he tried to put in the same vivarium. He thought they might use the company; only one did. I never had unofficial pets... The potential unofficial pets I had around so far are not the kind I want to pet; or even want much more than just letting them feed in the yard.

Turtles eat fish, that is common knowledge Killerzzz, if you feed them enough or not
Just letting you guys know that my little kitty Isis died this week. She died quietly after a few days of loosing her poo. There was nothing we could do for her. She was just too little and I had no money to take her to the vet

This is my 16-year old cat... and the only pet I've had in some time. Altogether I've had four cats and three dogs. Had to give away most of them due to moving around and having to live in apartments that didn't allow pets throughout my life (some also died in accidents). So it's refreshing to have had a cat for so long, that's for sure - this summer I'm planning to get two dogs too, now that I have my own place.

Cute cat with a neat mask and lovely eye color; she doesn't look her age on the pics. What kind of dogs would you be drawn to get?
