Enjoyable is the word, IMO . I AM rereading them (in English), which I have been doing for... about 1 1/2 year now. If not more . One and a half book left ;D. Übereil

I used to enjoy reading Jordan when it started. But after about 8 books or so, the series just wore down on me and I lost interest. The pacing is glacial, and there are chapters that are quite easily missable without losing track of the story. I would also have to agree that he's been taking way too long. I like the worldbuilding and some of his characters, but this series really needs to be more focused.
Wake me up when it's time for the Last Battle, please. ;D

Just FYI, I found out the other day that Jordan's next book, the Memory of Light, IS the Last Battle, and he's working on it now.
Mainly because he's probably fighting the last battle of his own life as well, as he was diagnosed with primary amyloidosis with cardiomyopathy. Though he's been doing better lately.
Jordan also warned that the final volume of the saga "could be a 1500-page monster" - I'm guessing because he probably didn't intend it to be the last book, so it's probably at least two books in one.
He maintains that A Memory of Light will remain one volume "whether it is 1500 pages long, Tor has to invent a new binding system, or it comes with its own library cart," though. Heh.

Yeah. I actually stopped at Book 9 though. I was getting to the point where every time Jordan wrote a new book, I couldn't remember what had happened in the novel before! So I decided that well, I was young enough that I could be patient and wait until he actually finished the whole shebang, and then I'd go back to it.
I didn't expect it THIS soon to be honest, though. Heh.

For those who don't know, Robert Jordan died on september 16th. Before finishing his last and 12th book in the wheel of time series.

... Jordan is dead? I admit, I'm completely and utterly stunned by the news. I thought he'd have lasted rather a lot longer than that. This is really sad news, though. It always is when the world loses an influential writer, whatever the faults in his work. It's especially a shame that the Last Battle wasn't finished, though. Hopefully an ending can be salvaged from his notes somehow, at any rate. The series deserves some kind of a conclusion, at the least. Still very sad, though.

He's been battling something for a while, apparently Shame for him to die, though. He wasn't that old

Indeed, he wasn't even 60.
He told his wife and his editor the entire plot and he also dictated it on tape. So it'll probably be published in some way. But still, it's a shame that it won't be fully written by him. It would have been nice that he at least could finish the series on his own.

IIRC, his son is about to take up the challenge of finishing the story. This is what I have read, at least.

I can't believe it. I've only read the first book, but I loved it so much that I decided to stop reading his series until I have all 12, so I can read it all at once, constantly (for a long time). He became one of my favorite authors in 800 pages, and I'm sorry to hear this news. It is really unfortunate for him not to have been able to finish off his series on his own. I only hope those who will be completing it will do him justice. Killerzzz
