I never thought I'd say this but I love the material in my Caribean Literature course. It all has this dual aspect of beauty and wildness and the varied traditions and the poetic flow is very nice. I've only read two (well one and a half) books so far and I would easily reccomend them:
Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys Banana Bottom by Claude McKay <===So far I like this one better.
The bad thing is that for the most part Caribean books are hard to track down but they are well worth it.

I don't know about Caribbean literature; in fact it's the first time I hear the expression. What is it like?

It's very interesting reading it in that sometimes its written in dialect and othertimes its written in English. Other than that the books seem to focus on two aspects of the Caribean so far. It's beauty and it's savagery.

Is it about the present day or mostly around historical eras? Focusing on what kind of people and under what kind of genres?
