Worst start since 1990 for United IIRC (no, I don't have all the facts in my head, I read it somewhere ). And I'm sure we'll finnish above West Ham this year too. Übereil

Chelsea beaten by Villa... And Pool really on the war path with ten goals in the last two games! They're gonna be the guys to watch this season. Best of all, though, the top clubs are not pulling smoothly away from the rest, and this looks like being one of the most interesting seasons ever

Well, it's certainly been an interesting start to the season. Complete inexcusable stupidty by the Chelsea board to sack (and thats what it really was: you either "mutually consent" or we sack you) Jose.
Sadly Man Utd are starting to get into gear but at least Liverpool are stumbling. Rafa Benitez is possibly the most irritating man in football. Even though it's only October, I've pretty much accepted that we won't be winning the title this season. Or the Champions League.
Bring on the Carling Cup! ;D

Biggest suprize so far is Arsenal. I thought they'd be strong, but not this strong. I'm sure they'll lose momentum sometime, but only God (if he exists) knows when that will happen.
United are starting to look their old self. Vs Wigan they acually played well, far more than they've done since they lost vs City...
Pool allmost lost to Tottenham today, and they didn't look very strong. But they've gotten the strongest start under Rafa Benitez, so if they can pull off the same kind of formpeak they've pulled off the last years, they'll be a force to be considered.
Chelsea won't win with the currents troubles. Besides, they've fallen too far behind.

Agreed on Arsenal. Most impressed with them, this season

Great weekend of attacking football...Chelsea 6-0 Man City and Man Utd 4-1. Both teams played really well and I think Chelsea shut up the tabloids that slammed Avram's "attacking football" comments. I'm not expecting to suddenly win the title but things are going in the right way. Liverpool and Arsenal certainly have a lot to live up to tommorow.

It's still a dimention or two less than Arsenal and Manchester United, but it beats haveing three workhorses/ballwinners (Essien isn't bad, but he doesn't create chances) in central midfield... Four games to go, and for once the top is still interesting, but wow! Look at the BOTTOM end of the table! 12 points left on the table means anyone with 40 points or less is STILL in danger of relegation, with only Derby clearly gone. Should make those last few games very interesting indeed with so much to play for...
1 Man Utd________80 pts 2 Chelsea________75 3 Arsenal_________71 4 Liverpool________66 5 Everton_________61 6 Portsmouth______57 7 Aston Villa_______55 8 Man City_________52 9 Blackburn________51 10 West Ham_______44 11 Tottenham_______41 12 Newcastle_______39 13 Middlesbrough____36 14 Sunderland______36 15 Wigan__________35 16 Reading_________32 17 Birmingham______31 --------------------------------------Relegation Line 18 Bolton__________29 19 Fulham_________27 20 Derby__________11

Well, I don't have the fixtures in my head, but I'm sure it's not mathematically possible for (say) Newcastle to lose all their games and ALL the teams behind them to win all theirs. I think Wigan's 35 points is the shoreline to safe ground. Still, four teams battling for two safe spots is quite allright. Derby's prolly the worst team ever to play in the Premier League by the way.
The top got considerably less interesting when United beat Arsenal and Chelsea only got 1-1 vs Wigan at home (!). As it is now, United can afford to draw one and lose at Stamford Bridge and still win. And if they drop more points they can allways take comfort in the facts that Chelsea still needs to take all remaining 12 points to even have a chance.
I'd say the most interesting top battle left for the English is the last rounds of the Champions League.

Final table: 1 Man Utd 38 58 87 2 Chelsea 38 39 85 3 Arsenal 38 43 83 4 Liverpool 38 39 76 5 Everton 38 22 65 6 Aston Villa 38 20 60 7 Blackburn 38 2 58 8 Portsmouth 38 8 57 9 Man City 38 -8 55 10 West Ham 38 -8 49 11 Tottenham 38 5 46 12 Newcastle 38 -20 43 13 Middlesbrough 38 -10 42 14 Wigan 38 -17 40 15 Sunderland 38 -23 39 16 Bolton 38 -18 37 17 Fulham 38 -22 36 ----------------------------------------------- Relegation 18 Reading 38 -25 36 19 Birmingham 38 -16 35 20 Derby 38 -69 11 I feel a bit sorry for Reading - relegated on equal points - but was there ever a bigger shambles than Derby? Let's hope next season's graduates do better. I expected Portsmouth and Man City to finish a bit higher, but both clubs did pretty well throughout the season. (The three numbers are played, goal difference and final points total, BTW
