Hey guys, I know this doesn't interest most but it will some. I have been working up some info (mostly stolen from many sources) and am getting it together as it intrigues me. will post the first and finish the rest in a few days.

In October 2001, Osama bin Laden was quoted in al Jazeera TV in a letter they broadcast, he “called on the Muslims in Pakistan to stand in the face of a ‘Christian crusade’ against Islam”
In the west, we regard the Crusades of the Middle Ages as ancient history. To the modern Muslim (especially the fanatics) the Crusades are as current as the weather. The current war focus is over the Temple Mount. Most refuse to either believe this or even consider it as a possibility, but it goes back thousands of years. I think the current confrontation is from the year A.D. 1099. (about a millennium ago).!
That was the year in which the European Crusaders took Jerusalem. The “infidels” from whom they wrested the Holy Land and its major city were faithful followers of Mohammed – Islam and its leaders. From that time, the clerics of Islam have never forgotten this great insult. They have sworn revenge, preaching that the time will come when Islam will be avenged. The Jews and their supporters in the West will be humiliated, then totally destroyed.
Todays battle of the Judeo-Christian West against the Islamic East is not new. It has been going on for centuries. In order to understand its implications one needs to consider its root causes. No matter what the guise of terrorists they still have a single cause – the desire to rule Jerusalem and make the Temple Mount their own.!!
There has been an ancient three- way battle for the land.
The West, with its Graeco-Roman tradition,
The East, under the banner of Islam, and
The Israelis, with biblical promises.
All are fighting for supremacy and each believes that they have a legitimate claim to the Temple Mount.!
In the OT, the word “Palestine” or Palestina” is found four (4) times. In all four cases it is an English translation of the name of Israel’s ancient enemy, the Philistines. – The invaders who came across the Mediterranean and landed on ancient Israel’s Southern coast.
They established city-states like the ancient Greeks and although their presence as a major force was short lived, their name has been (wrongly) imprinted upon the land of Israel. – (the land of Abraham, Issac, and Jacob.)
About the time that the days of the OT came to an end, the Romans invoked the name of Israel’s old enemies (the Plilistines) and in a propaganda move of master genius, changed the name of ancient Judea to Palestine. By the time they crushed the Jewish Bar Kochba revolt of A.D 135, the name Palestine was there to stay..
From Roman times, through the Dark Ages of the Roman Church and the Holy Roman Empire, the land of Israel continued to be known as Palestine. From A.D. 70 (when the Temple was destroyed) to A.D. 395, Roman rule turned this terriroty into a pagan province. Then, from A.D. 395 to 614, it fell under Byzantine administration.
After that, the Persians took control of the region for a short time. (A.D. 614 to 628). Then came the period of the Arab caliphates. These Moslem potentates ruled the land from A.D. 637 to 1099.
This was the time that the Crusaders came from Europe to take the land in the name of the Church. This is (to me) where things get interesting..(or maybe mystical)..(ever wath the movie National Treasure.. ;D)
Among the Crusaders were the men called the Knights Templar. They came to free the Temple Mount from Islamic rule. For 88 years –from A.D. 1099 until 1187, they ruled the Holy Mount. While there, it is said that they may have discovered many of the ancient Temple treasures. This fact literally changed the course of world history. (more on that later).
In A.D. 1187, Saladin brought the fall of Jerusalem. The Knights and their allies fled, some to Cypress and others to various parts of the land. By A.D. 1291, their influence was gone. For the next 250 years or so (until 1516) the Moslem Marmelukes ruled.
Then, during the days of the Ottoman Empire, the Turks ruled the land. From A.D. 1517, until 1917, they continued the Islamic admisistration to the region. During the entire period of Roman and Islamic rule, Judea was allowed to become a wilderness..no cultivation and denuded of trees.
In 1917, (which the Jews in their history has as a time marker) Jerusalem was MIRACULOUSLY (caps mine) delivered into the hands of Great Britain. General Allenby marched into Jerusalem on December 9th of that year. This date fell upon the Jewish festival of Dedication called “Hanukkah” – the 24th of Chislev.
His (Allenby’s) victory came after the famous “Balfour Declaration” of Nov 2, 1917. In recognition for their part in the defeat of Germany in WWI, the British awarded the land to the Jews: (letter follows)
“Foreign Office
November 2, 1917
Dear Lord Rothchild,
I have much pleasure in conveying to you, on behalf of His Majesty’s Government, the following declaration of sympathy with Jewish Zionist aspirations, which has been submitted to, and approved by, the Cabinet;
His Majesty’s Government view with favour the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people, and will use their best endeavours to facilitate the achievement of this object, it being clearly understood that nothing shall be done which may prejudice the civil and religious rights of existing non-Jewish communities in Palestine, or the rights and political status enjoyed by Jews in any other country. I should be grateful if you would bring this declaration the the knowledge of the Zionist federation.
Yours sincerely,
Arthur James Balfour.”
In 1919, the League of Nations mandate incorporated this historic declaration. Zionism became a key word in the course of Western civilization. Note that Lord Balfour still used the Roman name, Palestine, for Israel. But twice in his letter, he also incorporated the new term “Zionist.” This is a technical expression for one who believes in and pursues the restored throne of King David and the Messiah.
