It is meant to be a special day to inspire awareness and appreciation of the environment. It happens at a pretty good time here, while the weather is suddenly hinting to summer coming and that at the same time everything is so dirty after the winter and snow melt... Happy Earth Day! Here is a link to the Earth Day Network, an organisation that prompotes and coordinates action oriented towards "environmental citizenship", on Earth Day but also all year long; there are several links to events taking place around the globe and a lot of ways to contribute, from active to symbolic ways: Earthday.netCuriosity, are there special times/things in the year like that where you try to do something environmentally-friendly? Or even not so special/specific times/efforts? Are there environmental problems that reach/concern you more than others?

Well... in my Family we were always aware of humanity's impact on the environment and therefore always took measures to not be wasteful, not litter, conserve water & electricity, etc. However, I can't say the same about my dear Indonesia, which happens to be the World's #1 CO2 producers. Oh well, there have been a lot of environmentalist campaigns recently in Indonesia, so the people are starting to change, slowly.

I almost posted this one, but came across this site with this page which claims that the true and original Earthday is March 20, which coincides with the equinox. I suppose that having two Earthdays is twice as good, but solely for historical accuracy I decided to omit it -- and figured somebody else would post it.

I took care of the kittens at home, planted a few plants in the backyard of my sister and picked up every can of soda i found on the ground. For the rest of the day, I was trapped at work. Oh, I also told my neighbour to have his car checked, cuz he seems to have a lot of black smoke coming out of it.
Actually, for me, every day is Earth Day

Oh well, there have been a lot of environmentalist campaigns recently in Indonesia, so the people are starting to change, slowly. Yeah, a lot of eyes in the media seem to be turned towards Indonesia on environmental topics lastly, about the burning practices, deforestation, biofuel controversy, rare/threatened species discoveries, weather hazards... I didn't know about that #1 CO2 producers thing and find it a little surprising though. It's good if people are getting more conscious about these things. I almost posted this one, but came across this site with this page which claims that the true and original Earthday is March 20, which coincides with the equinox. I suppose that having two Earthdays is twice as good, but solely for historical accuracy I decided to omit it -- and figured somebody else would post it. Yeah, I found out about there being 2 different Earth Days yesterday while digging about this one too.... And I thought the same for the former, but the contrary for the latter. ;D I don't know about elsewhere in the world, but for what is of here specifically, they have a better chance of reaching people with Earth Day on April 22 than at the equinox, I think. I took care of the kittens at home, planted a few plants in the backyard of my sister and picked up every can of soda i found on the ground. For the rest of the day, I was trapped at work. Actually, for me, every day is Earth Day Awww, I wouldn't have expected less of you. ;D I didn't do much in particular myself, today... Aside from spending time out and not using motorrs, but I didn't need to either. It's too early to plant anything outside (that uses to be more on Mothers Day) and I already have seeds that I try to grow inside (without much success this year). Generally I try to take more environmentally-friendly ways, like sparing some energy/water, buying local/fair goods when I can, trying to learn and be aware about what goes on around, to support ecologic movements when those seem reasonable and that the means to do so are reasonable too...
