This is really bad news, though they haven't found the real reason of the dead dolphins but so far they think it's a mass suicide, the reason they died is not figured out yet.

I had to check the definition of suicide: They might have killed themselves, but I would be very surprised if they indeed "committed mass suicide"... It would be more likely that they drowned in the mud or swallowed it because of an illness symptom. Not less sad either way, though.

Yup, by further investigation of that drama I also found several other suspected causes, among them the mud swallowing, a killer whale who scared them to death and experts believe many were lured to their deaths by the distress calls of stranded pals. Post-mortem tests on seven dolphins have failed to reveal why they died. Such a pity to see this thing happening though, dolphins are among the most gracious and friendliest animals in the ocean known by men. According to this article, there was some Royal Navy activity, but the MoD says they were not aware of any kind of shootings or explosions. Of course they are trying to pull away so they wont be called responsable for this drama.

Hopefully they will be able to find what caused it; and be able to prevent something like that to happen again if can be. It looks like there were increases in marine mammals dying aground around the world these last years.
