www.somethingawful.com/d/comedy-goldmine/dumb-teacher-school.phpWow, I knew some teachers were quite obnoxious* but some of this takes the cake like the ones by Jagerhunde. Seriously... gods! ;D *Like the teacher who insisted that "true and devoted couples do not run into marriage problems". A few years later, he got divorced. *Oh and would you believe it? I've had teachers who ingrained in me that metal and rock was Satanic. Oh and 'cos that stuck with me forever, I was pretty "zany" as a teen.

Few of my favorites: "My science teacher in 5th grade tried to convince the class that Canada isn't an actual country.
Despite the fact that I was born there and had a Canadian passport, she wasn't budging." _____________________________________________________ "Sex Ed. teacher in 10th grade insisted that women didn't orgasm.
I really feel sorry for that man's wife."
Great find Sonar Chick

There are some VERY scary teachers out there!!!
Although ironically it DOES prove that ignorance is not confined to teachers, as in this case the teacher is technically correct:
"We had a substitute teacher in 10th grade English that insisted our teacher was wrong for referring to a female author as an "author" in the assignment she had left for us. She insisted that it's only correct to refer to a female author as an "authoress.""
A lot of proper grammar does get ignored these days with regard to correct gender pronouns, but that doesn't mean it's proper English to do so.

Great find Sonar Chick The first one is mass stupidity. The second one? Gods... she sounds like a virgin. And it's a really slippery slope should she rambling on, further encouraged by her comments. EK: Interesting! I didn't know that. Oh well, we always learn something new. I bet that poster didn't know, either. ;D Yep, now that I think of it, there's governess, seductress, songstress, etc. Although it beats me why they can't use words like "mistress, dancetress, cookress, bankress, pianress/pianistress. etc." too! ;D Edit: About teachers being scary? You bet! Little wonder why much of the younger generations are so cynical. How could one not be, after having to face hours after hours of sheer idiocy in school or even home(if someone's teaching them)?

Luci - yeah, English is an erratic language and there are not female equivalents for everything. But then that works both ways - as far as I know there is no female equivalent of 'Misogynist' which is clearly needed...

Your students are lucky to have you as a teacher Jang, I'm pretty darn sure you do a wonderful job for them. And they respect you too hopefully. Being a teacher is more then just a job, it's a calling, I know I couldn't do it. I admire a good teacher, I only had a few really good ones in my whole life at school and I still remember their courses. One of them was such a good math teacher that I finally got some algebra. Of course, with a new teacher I couldn't understand any of that no more and stopped trying
