All right a bit early as there are still about 3 or 4 major releases coming out this year (the Curious Case of Benjamin Button, the Day the Earth Stood Still, the Spirit, and some comedies) but it's close enough to say what you guys think was the best of the best this year so here we go:
TV:
Best show: Terminator: the Sarah Connor Chronicles
This show is consistently good every single week. I sit glued to my television and sit in amazement that they made a show that should be horrible absolutely great. Sure it has its weak points (Ellison, and the T-1000) but overall they don't matter. There is so much to like about this show I can't formulate the words.
Runner up: Doctor Who- Who usually has an uneven quality to the seasons, this was like none other despite having a companion that I loved.
Best actress: Summer Glau- One of the reasons T:SCC succedes is because of the character Summer plays and how she nails it.
Best actor: Alec Baldwin- His deadpan delivery of everything on 30 Rock makes the show so much funnier. Great actor on a great show.
Best Hero: Sarah Connor- I love me some Sarah Connor.
Best Villain: Arthur Petrelli- He has totally messed up almost everything he touched, from making Sylar believe that he is Sylar's father to taking away Hiro and Peter's powers, to killing the main villains of season 2. Arthur is the definition of evil. I just wish he had better dialogue.
runner up: Angela Petrelli- Even though she's technically a "good guy" right now Angela is still rotten to the core and not above manipulating people to her own means.
Best moment (tie): The Death of Cromartie, Cromartie vs. the FBI- Both are excellent moments that use music to great effect. The latter I was just like "cool", but the former I was completely blown away. I was literally cheering it on when Ellison led Cromartie into the church, and then all heck broke loose as Sarah, Cameron, Derek and John ambushed Cromartie in a wonderful strategy that made Cromartie scrap metal.
DVD:
Best DVD release: Heroes season 2- The season may have sucked but seeing what may have been had there been no writer strike was wonderful.
Runner up: Into the Wild
Best Blu-Ray: Don't know since I don't own one but included for sake of completeness.
Movies (all right since I have not seen movies in every genre I'm just going to do a top ten here):
1. Wall-E: Best Sci-Fi film of the year, and possibly one of the greatest of all time. Pixar created a great character in Wall-E, and did it with no spoken dialogue throughout half the film. I saw it for free but I felt guilty for doing so.
2. Speed Racer- Fast cars, lots of color and a great cast make this the second best family film of the year. Worth seeing just for the fact that its a live action cartoon.
3. Cloverfield- I loved this film. Blair Witch meets Godzilla.
4. Mama Mia!- Catchy tunes by ABBA make this one a guilty pleasure but a good one at that.
5. The Dark Knight- I like it a little more every time I see it but I'm frankly getting burned out on superhero films
6. Iron Man- This is Downey Jr.'s film
7. Quatum of Solace- In a year full of great movies this one sorta fell through the cracks because it wasn't as good as it's predecessor.
8. Zack and Miri Make a Porno- This is one of the trinity that are here to round out the list, really interchangeable with the next two.
9. Get Smart- See above.
10. Mongol- See above.
Worst movie of the year (tie): Wanted and Pineapple Express. Wanted was a shameless rip off of the Matrix and not as deep. Pineapple Express was just horrendous. I wanted to gouge out my eyes after seeing it.
