I still don't see the wisdom in hiring Beckham on a loan basis or even if they'll sign him permanently. Beckham, while still capable of playing well, is past his prime and at his age will be nothing more than a short term solution. Milan already has the reputation of being the footballing equivalent of a retirement home and it would be wiser to invest in some younger footballers with many years of growth potential.
Of course there's the economic aspect of signing beckham. Shirt sales will probably rise dramatically as will the exposure to the club. And given the current state of the Milan team I guess they're hungering for some good publicity. In that way it does make sense - but the wise thing would still be to invest in the future.
I once argued that Beckham, while still very well known, might not be the best known footballer atm because of his detour to the US. It looks like I might have been wrong as he still makes headlines. But from what I read in the press there's as many people shaking their heads as there is praising Beckhams move...

He's had hordes of detractors almost from the start, Peter, so that's no surprise.
He does seem to be doing far better than anyone expected at Milan, though, and good for him.
They want to keep him, apparently. Whether that's more for the marketing side or not is, of course, anybody's guess. But he's playing in the first team regularly, has scored two goals in three games and seems to be doing pretty well...
Manchester United, real Madrid, AC Milan... not a bad career, really, is it? ;D

Mind, I only have what I read from people who've watched his games - and not from seeing it myself..

Weeelll... he WAS the difference between draw and defeat in the Genoa game. Scored Milan's only goal. Genoa only equalized when he went off, too.

What a difference a few games make. It does seem that Beckham is beginning to hit his stride now. Milan might be willing to pay a fair amount to keep him..

They're in some pretty serious negotiations now, I gather. They seem to be VERY serious about wanting him to stay and there's no doubt he's playing well for them.
