Look at it carefully; what side is she spinning towards? More info about this picture and those phenomenons here and here. The link at the end of the Times blog entry has cool stuff in too.

Woah, that's weird! I saw clockwise to start with, got her to change to anti-... Sure I've driven my eyes crazy! ;D Good find, Fille

For me, she goes clockwise, I really don't see it any other way Btw, doesn't she ever get drunk? ;D

Tricky! I initially saw clockwise, when I opened the wikipedia link, she was going counter-clockwise! If I focus on the arm rather than the whole picture I can make her 'switch'

I don't think drinking and spinning like that would make a good mix. I see her switching when I focus on her pivot leg after looking at the picture as a whole. For those who can't see both directions, here's something that might help you see it: www.randominc.net/spinninglady/

Hehe, thanks Fille, I could only see Clockwise without that help thing. ;D
I can only get her to switch if I try really hard though.

With the help page i could indeed see her turning counter clockwise due to the thin line on the back of her leg.
Oh and btw, I never mentioned drinking, just the way she keeps spinning around would make me dizzy ;D

The harder I try, the more I see her only going counter-clockwise. What is wrong ;D

Try looking only at the shadow of her feet and imagine her going the other way. That's the best way I can get her to switch.
I always see her going clockwise at first and have to really work to make her change. Even when I do, it doesn't look natural at all to me, the clockwise motion makes more 'sense' to my eyes, given the position of her arms and legs.

The problem is that I always see the shadow of her strechted out leg entering the picture from the right and then continuing to leave the picture on the left. Which means she is going counter-clockwise. What is wrong with my braaaaiiins

I love it! When she spins clockwise, she lifts her right leg, but anti-clockwise she lifts her right leg.

I've seen a slower version of this spinning dancer and guess what, she's not spinning at all to me! She only moves her leg to the right and then moves it again to the left, without making a full spin. No kidding, if you look at it closely, when the speed isn't as high as Fille's dancer, you will see it too!

I slowed her down and tried to see that, but it did exactly the same for me as with the high speed one. For others to try:

To get the 'slow dancer' to swivel rather than rotate, look quickly from one edge of the screen to the other. She should seem to move in the direction you are looking. that worked for me, at least

And if you still are not able to see her dancing in the opposite direction, use your finger to direct, i bet it will work then. It did for me at least!
