This is the moment you've all been waiting for. We're thrilled to announce our release of the best thing to happen to the FPS genre since the invention of gibs.
The wisecracking intergalactic badass with some sort of invisible woman-magnet inside his chiseled frame is a gaming icon, and Duke Nukem 3D® features Duke in his greatest performance yet. Duke returns to Earth after various space-based adventures to find the planet, Los Angeles in particular, overrun by alien scum! The only reasonable option he has is to kick some ass, and kick it he does. The game set a new standard for 3D shooters, mixing state-of-the-art visuals with humor and sexually explicit content. GOG.com gives you chicks, guns and tons of action for just $5.99! Also check out the mods for Duke we have gathered specially for you!
Additional Info
For those who didn't know:
--Duke Nukem 3D contains the first three episodes
(which is Version 1.3D of the game)
--The Plutonium Pak contains the fourth episode "The Birth"
(which is Version 1.4 of the game from the disc).
Installing all of these pieces together turns all of this into Duke Nukem 3D: Atomic Edition (Version 1.4).
The last version of the Duke Nukem 3D: Atomic Edition from 3D Realms is Version 1.5, by the way. Buy it from GOG, you won't have to worry about doing any updating -- you have the final Version 1.5.
Taking Duke Nukem 3D CD + Plutonium Pak CD to turn it into Duke Nukem 3D: Atomic Edition (Version 1.5)
If you need to update to Version 1.5 and you have DN3D + Plutonium on disc, here's what you do:
1. Install DN3D from the disc by running the install file.
(Installs by default into C:\DUKE3D)
2. Download PPatch15.exe and put that file RIGHT INTO your Duke Nukem 3D folder.
3. Put Plutonium Pak CD into disc drive.
4. Run PPack15.exe that you placed within your Duke Nukem 3D folder.
5. Tell it only to update from 1.3 to 1.4 -- let it do its thing.
6. Repeat Step #3.
7. Tell it only to update from 1.4 to 1.5.
8. DONE!
Duke Nukem 3D: Atomic Edition - CD Edition
Patching it up to Version 1.5
If you bought Duke Nukem 3D: Atomic Edition on disc sometime ago, you have version 1.4. To bring it to 1.5, you need to...
1. Install DN3D: Atomic from the disc by running the install file.
(Installs by default into C:\DUKE3D)
2. Download PPatch15.exe and put that file RIGHT INTO your Duke Nukem 3D folder.
3. With the disc in the drive, run PPack15.exe that you placed within your Duke Nukem 3D folder.
4. Tell it only to update from Version 1.4 to 1.5.
5. DONE!
Duke 3D on newer OS's
Now, I still have Duke Nukem 3D + Plutonium Pak on CD (which will turn the game into The Atomic Edition, if you install all of these correctly -- or if you just install DN3D: Atomic Edition). I dug these out and all today. Yes, you can get these to work on Win XP (and newer Win OS's), if you still have these -- if you try running these under DosBox or EDuke32.
EDuke32
The EDuke32 Source Port is pretty good for trying to run any version of Duke 3D (Original, Atomic, whatever) on Windows XP or Vista.
If you download EDuke32 Source Port, place those two files right within in your Duke Nukem folder and you can run EDuke32.exe from there. You should be good to go, to run Duke 3D: Atomic. Now might be a good time to place a shortcut on your desktop somewhere.
You can use Mapster32.exe to build new Maps for Duke3D.
