I saw it. It was...watchable.
Not as bad as Terminator 3 but still no where near as good as Terminator 1 and 2. Didn't seem to have as much action as the previous 3 films either.
Here are my thoughts as I watched the film:
uh-huh ( first hour and 20 minutes)
OMG This is sweet (towards the climax)
*groan* (Referencing Sarah Connor's battle at the end of Terminator 1 a little too much)
*yawn* (started to drag)
So as you see I started to loose my interest in it. Thing is I shouldn't have lost my interest, it has an absolutely great new character in Marcus Wright, and Anton Yelchin is dead on as Kyle Reese (First Chekov and now Reese? This kid is impressive). John Connor is just there and I really think anybody could have played him and made him good in this role.
The rest of the cast is wasted. Dallas Bryce Howard (whatever order her name is in), Common, Moon Bloodgood (love that name), and Helena Bonham Carter simply do not have enough to do and are background dressing.
Also some of the references were good, like the 90's music, and Marcus wearing a similar jacket to Kyle Reese's. But when you are referencing the first Terminator film down to camera shots it is utterly lame.
I will say the ending sequence was pretty decent...starting out but then it became a retread of the other Terminator films, and I lost interest.
Also I was impressed at how good the CGI was on Arnold's body double's face. He really did look like Arnold circa 1984. But he didn't stick around much unfortunately. That was the wow part of the film for me.
Thing is this really should have been a better film. It had a decent plot and a great new character, but the action and overall package just wasn't as great. I give this a:
4/10
and here is a ranking of the Terminator things to give you a better idea:
1. Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles (by a hair)
2 (tie). Terminator 1 and 2
3. Terminator: Salvation
4. Terminator 3
