Oohkay, people... so this just popped into my head:
What did you want to become when you were young? (Child or teen)
For me:
- soldier, bodybuilder, lawyer, politician, racing car driver, gambling queen, model, knife thrower,

Wow what a variety of professions SC ;D Did any of them work out for yah?
I wanted to become a nurse, then archeologist, a nurse again and that's about it I guess. I did nursing school but never finished it properly. Now all I want is to become happy, does that count? ;D

I've always wanted to be what I am today: a volunteer social worker.

Beyond the usual childish stuff, writer has been pretty much it. Well, unless you count philosopher, I guess. That's not exactly a profession though.

Oh wait... let me add in: writer, archaeologist, etc.
Gal: Errr... none of them worked out. No opportunities to do so, I guess.

Gal: being happy, huh? Wow... never thought of that. THD: Wow, you managed to achieve your dream. That's good. Btw, I'd wanted to become a volunteer at one time but... I'm terrified of seeing blood. EK: gah, wish I could write. I've so many problems with nouns and adjectives and stuff, it just keeps annoying me. Being a philosopher?! Cool! ;D

The pursuit of happiness is a worthy goal, but hardly a professional career; and being a philosopher is enlightening, but doesn't pay the rent (living in a barrel, remember? ). I wanted to be a soldier - until I was drafted into the Army, which pacified me... ...I studied food technology, but then family happened... ...and by the coincidences of life I ended up as a contracting officer for the US Army, achieving a rank far beyond anything I ever imagined possible as a soldier But earlier, as a kid, I dreamed of being a historian, or a librarian, or an archeologue, a writer of travel guides (or rather the globetrotter seeking the places).

Always wanted to be a Train Engineer, and a Sailor to go see the world.. Never became the Train Engineer, but was a sailor for 20 years and saw most of the world.. Did not realize that when I had 20 years in the Navy I was still only 37 years old, so retireing from the navy left me with the rest of my life to start over again.. ;D Like Glance, I was "pacified" about the military by then... ;D, but I did achieve one of my childhood desires...

@ Gal: We all pursue happiness in whatever way we see fit, I'd say it's not a profession, but something which we all seek. @ SC: It's not guaranteed that you'll see blood as a volunteer social worker... @ Glance & ss: My dad never thought much about the army, but when he was drafted he knew it just wasn't for him... @ Glance: Was that Diogenes who lived in the barrel? @ ss: That must've been pretty fun on the seas! My dad spent about 6 months sailing the seas, he said there's nothing quite like it. Funny, am I the only person here who has been living his/her dream job since birth (I was born into FCI)?

I wanted to be software engineer, I loved programming. At one point I also wanted to work in a bank because I thought it was cool that they had bullet proof glass.
I am a software engineer now, and I'm loving it!

In order of wanted to: 1. Dancer 2. Musical-makeup artist (making masks and wigs) 3. Journalist and/or author 4. Music marketing manager 5. Singer/Songwriter 6. Designer for Media & Technology Which did I actually end up with? 1. I started dancing when I just turned 3 and did that to a professional level for 12 years. Dancer = check. 2. I started working for a theatre as a musical-make up artist & for their property room when I turned 14. MMA = check. 3. I worked for a Berlin newspaper and an e-mag. I won a writing contest for a poem and a shortstory, I'm still writing for a journal and on my first book. Journalist/author = check. 4. After 10th grade I decided to not work like my parents wanted and went to (without their permission..) a Business school where I focused on marketing, law, business studies and music. After grade 11, I started managing a metal band, produced 1 CD's with them and did their music-law troubles with the GEMA (german music license place). Music management = check. 5. Well I had a record contract before, which failed but gave me a pretty good insight of what I'm getting myself into I wrote a song for a band, about 4 months ago I sang backing vocals for the new album of a befriended metalband that just got into the label Doro (metal, y'know) is in. I co-wrote a musical, I have performed before. I have recorded before. Of course, I'm not a superstar but I did a lot of things I wanted to do music-wise so far and I'm still going. So... singer/songwriter = pretty much check. 6. I only recently started a webdesign company with my BF here in Aussieland, I will do the main creative design and marketing. One of my first projects (that I only finished last week, thank spock!) was the design of a cover, inlay and booklet for a Christmas CD. BF & I also did the media-coverage (photography, filming, webdesign, marketing, packing blaaaaah) which was a lot of fun and a sh*tload of work. Next up is a bandwebsite which I really look forward to because the band is a guy I went to school with ;D Designer = check. So actually, whaetver I wanted to be, I became. I had and have and actually don't want to have an ongoing career in anything because I'm not one for being in one job forever. I like to try whatever I think will fit me, challenges me and makes me happy. Apart from that do I volunteer in a Lutheran (yes ss & dragon, religious! ) charity here in Aussieland, I do their marketing, IT and journalistic work. When BF & I will move to Germany in a week, I think I might take up some volunteering on a cementary - again. In 2005 I did work for a symbolic price on a cememtary already, I let old people pay me flowermoney and brought flowers to their fam's grave, made them winterready, cleaned them etc. whatever the people weren't able t do themselfs anymore because of old age or illness. Was a good job for me - nightwork, silence, time to think. I also plan to take up a small pet-sitting business when in good ol' Germantown. I'm a bit of a pet addict so I thought some extrabucks through carring for cats, dogs and rabbits/guinea pigs when people are on holidays would be nice and easy. Um yea.. sorry for the rant.

I forgot to mention BTW, last Thursday and Friday me, my Dad and Mom visited 2 orphanages! We brought them Rice, Fish, Laundry Soap, Cooking oil, and Noodles, plus some Educational Videos and Books that were sponsored by some of our Supporters, I can post some pictures soon!

-When I was a kid I wanted to be a Mad Scientist. For example I used to mix different chemicals under the sink with food to kill ant colonies. -For a short time I wanted to be a writer. I had always made up stories in my play time, and thought briefly of writing one down. -And around the same time I wanted to be an actor/comedian. I was always the goof in school, and enjoyed the improv sessions we had one year. Results? -I'm not much of a scientist, but am nonetheless delightfully mad. c: Though I do like to tinker with things sometimes... -I never wrote then, but years later I regained interest after I'd begun reading. Now I jot down ideas and intros and stuff, but have yet to get something substantial down. But I will. You can bet on that. -I was and am a shy person, and I quickly discovered that outside the people I knew very well, I had a crippling stage fright. Any form of performance just breaks me down to a shuddering mess (though I can manage musical performances or explaining something to a crowd... just not the acting part ). So instead, I began drawing stick figures to do my acting for me, and we all know about that. Killerzzz

I used water and a lot of soap to fill ants nests with ;D When I was 5 (all the way until I was 7), every day before lunch I'd drink a mixture of whatever I could find in the bathroom's medicine cabinet (bleach, shampoo, floor cleaner, etc.). It's a miracle I never got sick from it!

Maybe you're immune to everything by now... Hm... Perhaps that explains my mosquito resistance! Imagine a boss in Diablo with the following appearing when you move your cursor above it: Two-Headed Dragon Immune to Everything, "Religious" (Paladin Auras), RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!
