Erm... I'm probably ignorant but wth is the point in a stupidly long number? Why pay money for this? Oh well.. Prime numbers are a key part of encryption and digital security. Twelve million digits might be more than we ever need, but who knows. A friend of mine is researching computer technology that will be able to crack encryption in seconds. Twelve million digits might be what they need to keep things secure.

Sad world that needs ridiculous numbers to secure private data.
But probably a cool job

Ah, "the largest prime number" keeps on being discovered every couple a' years. We're at 12 million digits now eh? Cool. @ Kitty: Gives the nerds something to do that's time consuming, and that they can get sponsored for. ;D

Well I'm all for nerds, you see but can't they do something a little cooler, like crating the worlds hardest rubiks cube? I'm sure some nerds are doing that somewhere, but they probably aren't being paid all that much for their efforts. ;D I'm all for nerds too, but what I was referring to is how every nerd's dream (I'm talking about 100% nerds here) job would be to be being paid to be able to use a computer all day.

Well, there's an easy job for that; it's called spamming. Not so glorious, but uses a computer all day and seems to pay according to my trashbox.

I'm officially a nerd than - using a PC for work all day ^^ ( I'm NOT a pro-spammer! xD) Well then, I'm only part-nerd since most of my work is field work, and the total time I spend on a computer every day (work + gaming + browsing) amounts to an average of less than 2 hours daily...
