I have just now seen one of the most beautiful and frightening things. I'm sure it's personal taste, and may seem not so significant as to earn such a place among the things that I've seen, but there we have it. The night is brighter than a full shining moon could muster. Low clouds, lively and powerful, move like the ocean across the sky. They glow a magnificent dark yellow, and are bordered and before a black of pitch, so empty and silent. It rains softly. I stand, socked, on the wet ground, staring up in awe. The wind is strong, but not too strong. I can see far. These luminescent clouds are so beautiful to me, so sublime, as they soundlessly and speedily chase the darkness that surrounds them, enhances them, enchants me. Their life, their hidden power, and the depth of the void are frightening. I stay because I do not want this moment to end, and I leave because I cannot stand its immensity. And I miss it already. I'm not being melodramatic. I'm just trying to express in words something that can't be expressed by words. That's what I felt. What a beautiful night. Killerzzz

That's beautiful Killerzzz, and what a coincidence! Last night was a beautiful night, though not the same type of sky. It was a full moon here. But what made it beautiful was that there was a ring of light surrounding the moon from a distance (like seeing Saturn, or something). There were no stars, and the clouds were gray (thus obscuring the stars), but the moon was shining, and so was this mysterious halo! ARGH! I forgot to take a picture of it...

I know the feeling of the clouds. I used to find Melbourne very interesting that the sky and clouds could be a different colour every night, everything from orange through to purple.

The almost-naked trees make things brighter and more silent these times... And add to the chill of the period.

The almost-naked trees make things brighter and more silent these times... And add to the chill of the period. Ah... Now I'm missing the French countryside... EDIT: I'm ESPECIALLY missing Autumn and WINTER!!!

I would trade my winter with yours. (Except on Christmas. ;D ) LOL, "my Winter" tends to get very rainy, but still, it's nice in it's own special way. I'm happy where I am (of course), but still, sometimes I miss Winter, the main thing I miss being SNOW! How childish of me... ;D

You have the soul of a poet, Sir! What a beautiful description Thanks, Elliot! Glad you liked it. Oh cool! The full moon is always doing some new cool stuff (new to me nehoo)! I love full moons! Oh gosh I love full moons! There was a beautiful full moon out here tonight too! A beautiful night for everyone! Couldn't hope for more. I love full moons too! Wait, have I mentioned that yet? Mentioned what? Full moons are awesome! I'm enchanted by them each time, turning the night into day. The almost-naked trees make things brighter and more silent these times... And add to the chill of the period. The woods are lovely, dark and deep. But I have promises to keep, And miles to go before I sleep, And miles to go before I sleep.
-Robert Frost
Made me think of one of my favorite poems. ;D Even though it says "dark" I always picture the scene of "Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Evening" with a bright winter sky, and the darkness of the woods distant behind the brightness. I thought briefly of taking a picture when my experience was happening, but something told me not to. So I stayed, left, posted, and when I returned minutes later, the sky was dark and empty. Killerzzz

Taking pictures of beautiful moments distracts from them and the images hardly ever stand up to their magnificence.

Our minds also "photograph" the emotions connected with the things we see ...

I had a perfect night too this week. On tuesday I went snowboarding/skiing in an indoor hall in Holland with some schoolfriends. We all went by car (it was 2 hours of driving). I was driving alone in my car because I lived closest to where we went to and thus I didn't have to drop anyone else off at home. The ride towards the indoor skiing slope was dull with many traffic jams. But the ride back home was like a dream...
You see, I love driving a car. And I love being alone at times. And I love the dark. And I love snowboarding. I was coming back from some great moments with friends on a ski slope. It was 1 am, dark, cold and it rained. But I was driving my car and I was warm, I was relaxed, I was listening to the most perfect music for such moments and there was no one on the road. That hour of driving, from 1 to 2 am, that was heaven for me. Those moments are supposed to last forever.
