Remember that Disney Fantasia classic, The Sorcerer's Apprentice with Mickey Mouse? No? Here look (skip past the talk if you like - about 1 min through). There, see? Pretty rad. Well, guess what? They're making a LIVE ACTION MOVIE! :0 Yaaaay! Guess who it stars? That young guy from Tropic Thunder taking Mickey Mouse's place, or something, and none other than Nicholas Cage as the Sorcerer! Yays and haroos! Looks amazing! Soooooooo amazing! And if you haven't noticed yet, I'm being totally sarcastic. I dunno, I'm getting bad vibes. Many of them. Meh, what do you guys think? Blasphemy? Madness? Or something that actually has potential? That being said, I'm sure it'll have a few decent parts, and it looks like their special effects budget is nice, and I like the idea of seeing Alfred Molina as a bad guy again, but dammit, did they have to go under the pretense of adapting the Mickey classic to a live action something-completely-different? Ah! I'm conflicted between trying to give the benefit of the doubt and straight out feeling in my gut that this is bad news! Killerzzz

It's either a baseless rumour, or the worst idea since someone tried to use square wheels to give greater traction on the roads. Except that no-one was dumb enough to do that last thing outside of a Carry On film...
Seriously - who on Earth would greenlight this? The whole point of Fantasia is to introduce kids to classical music in an entertaining way. I can't imagine why anyone would ever want to try to make a full film of The Sorcerer's Apprentice.
Maybe internet rumour has confused the facts, somewhere...

Yeah, this is real, I saw the trailer when I went to see Sherlock Holmes. It has nothing to do with the old animated short (although I may have seen some walking brooms), just shares the name. I would dismiss this movie based on the substance alone even if it had a different name. It's just like a billion other movies where some kid learns he has powers and fights a bad guy - in a modern, urban setting of course. Wow. And what the hell is wrong with Nicholas Cage? Does he have no discrimination when he reads scripts?
