This seemed like quite an interesting idea that was mooted recently. We certainly have enough Potter-holics here that it should be possible for us (Well, YOU! ;D) to create THE definitive Harry Potter quiz.
First up, a few questions to answer about the quiz itself...
1. How many questions do you think should be in the quiz?
2. Should it include sections on the films as well as the books?
3. Should there be questions on Potter inspired stuff, such as WROCK, or Potter merchandise?
Your thoughts and suggestions, please...

1: It should certanly be a bunch. 20-30 maybe, ranging from who is Harry's best friend to the color of the socks Padami Patil wore the day before the prom. This to really separate the grain from the chaff.
2: The books aren't part of the Harry Potter universe.
3: Well, the way I see it it should be a HP quiz, not a quiz on HP fan fiction and the likes.

I would suggest a Dutch version, since I'm not that familiar with all the English names and stuff, but that would be a bridge too far i suppose... ;D

We'd fall foul of ProBoards apart from anything else, Gal! ;D
Nothing says you can't translate it for use on Dutch sites afterwards, though...

I'd say just on the books, with the movies maybe but not too much. The number of questions... As many good ones as we can find with maybe a limit of 30-35, and if there's more we eliminate some later? I vote for eliminating who's Harry's best friend; everyone knows it's Gandalf anyway. ;D Gal, I don't know most of the English names of the characters either but it shouldn't be too difficult to sort it out with some help.

Ube: The books aren't part of the universe? Are you serious?
Fille and Gal: They change the names in the French/Dutch/whatever languages? Is that common with all fiction?

1. 25 - 35 seems like a good idea. It´s important to keep it somewhat under control so people don't get tired of it.
2. The books only, please.
3. Keep it confined to the Potter verse.
Am I corret in assuming that Elliot and maybe select few others will choose the final entires? I can just imagine the logistical nightmare if we all have to vote on each question..

Actually, I'm hoping our resident Potter super-expert will step in and volunteer for final selection duties. Failing that, expect some long discussions. Don't forget, I know next to nothing about HP myself. I can hopefully organise the creation of the quiz, but the details of what constitutes hard or easy questions I could only vaguely guess at. However it all ends up going, though, you will ALL get full input into the process, don't worry about that *** Ube - I thought you were joking. You could have gotten away with it, but WHAT a slip to make! ;D

As far as I saw they usually change some names when those have a literal meaning. Hogwarts and the name of the houses were different in French, for example, though most characters IIRC are named the same.
It's been a long time since I read the books so the questions will be an interesting exercise.

Cat has kindly agreed to take over the organising of the quiz (Which is a great relief to me! ;D) Thanks, Cat! Over to you...

Ok, some question suggestions... Who is the first/last character to die in the books? What was Ron's worst marks at Hogwarts? In what order are disposed the directors' pictures in Dumbledore's office? What was the code/words needed to get into Gryffindor's tower during Harry's 4th year at Hogwarts? (Note: I don't know any of those questions' answers. But then, I would expect to fail at an "Ultimate HP Quiz", too. ;D)

Questions on how to defeat an X (not the Bogart) with the alternatives being all the means for all the monsters brought up in third grade would be a nice question I think.

Ohaider! *puts on thinking cap*
Those questions are awesome Fille and Ube
@fille With that second question, surely, since we know very little of his results we should ask what Ron got on his O.W.L.S? Or some sort Or a trick question, like his NEWTS (being that he didn't return in the 7th year)
@ube being that the bogart is too easy because it's in depth, surely one could argue that most of the lessons in the 3rd year DATDA because of the competance of Lupin? Idk, I really like the idea (:
We also need to decide what aspect of the Harry Potter phenomenon(sp?) we're going to do, or should we seperate into Topics. If they're 30 questions, should we do 10 on books, 10 on films, and 10 on fandom &sundry (incl. fanfic, wrock, etc.)?
How hard should these questions be, even though it's ultimate, it should contain some normal everyday HP stuff (e.g Harry's first broom etc) because it's still essential knowledge, right?

The way I see it there should be some essential questions, some semi-hard and some detail questions. This way we'll be able to get a few different levels of expertise. And getting a high score will acually mean something too.
The Boggart is too easy because there was an entire chapter dedicated to it. It was kind of the chapter that defined Lupin as a Great Teacher. So everyone is going to know it can't stand laughter. One of the other examples is going to be harder though (especially if we mix all the solutions together). There were four or five monsters which all had distinctive characteristics so it's a bit of "match the correct name to the correct description". Maybe we should make this more than one questiona and instead have a "draw a line from the correct name to the correct description" kind of question.
I still feel that the questions should be on the books and the books only. I suspect you'll be hopelessly alone when it comes to fan fiction, for example... ;D

Yeah, I would leave the questions on the books only too.
It's been a long time since I read the books, so feel very welcome to adapt my questions if they make no sense. ;D
Other ideas... Where are Hermione's parents during the 7th year? What breed of dog does Sirius Black take the shape of? Where was the profecy about Harry announced?

SO a quick bump. Who are we addressing this quiz to? Like other Chaos members, or other forum member or what?
Just wondering. I need to think of some questions too. (:

Anyone you guys & gals care to send it to or show it, too, IMO. It'll be your hard work, and hopefully something you can all take pride in If it attracts more people to look at Chaos, that would be an added bonus, I won't deny, but still Easy enough to set up on the forum after all, with spoiler tags to hide the answers...

I thought it was intended for a site made to host people's quizzes like Quizzilla or something like that; not that I mind though, anywhere is fine.
...And I can come up with more questions, no problem, but coming up with questions with their answers will be a little longer. ;D
