Well, I was casually washing my hands today, my hair somewhat unkempt as usual, when one hair sticking up caught my eye. It stood out from the rest.
See, my hair is a dark brown. Always has been. But this one, was copper-coloured. Very noticeably. I've never dyed my hair, either. Another thing is that this hair is also noticeably thicker. Weird!
I've noticed a rogue hair like this every once in a while, but it was the kind of notice like "huh, wouldja lookit tha-" boom, stopped paying attention, forgot. Today, I managed to keep my attention long enough to give it thought. ;D
So, any hair experts? Is this common? To have hairs that are way different than your others?
I've noticed it in my facial hair sometimes too. Oh, and every once in a while I see a blondish-copperish-coloured hair on an arm (more blondish than copperish), though I don't think this last example is thicker too, just the different colour.
Weird!

Hair can change over time both in color and texture; and especially drastically after changes in your life or body, stress, hormones, food, etc. Ask pregnant women. When I was a little kid I had big curly locks, and now my hair is about as curly as uncooked spaghetti. ;D
The pigments we produce can also be in different ratios locally (check wiki for eumelanin and pheomelanin) or different hairs could have been exposed more to something that made them partially bleach. Epilation/shaving tends to do that the hair that grows after becomes different. ...And of course, as we grow old we produce less pigments too, especially for the hairs.
I would think it's normal, and unless it's a part of a drastic trend and comes with other changes, not to be worried by.
Would you like to have a big red mane? ;D

I once had a white hair coming out of my chest, well I grasped on to it to pull it out and it was ingrown of sorts and it was a foot long. It didn't hurt coming out though so maybe I was hallucinating.
