Does any of you guys and gals have old bank notes for me? I want to help someone who's collecting them since he was a young man and he's now almost 70 years old. He's got notes from all over the world and some of them are brilliant. He even got heaven and hell notes, which were made to give with the deceased person for the afterlife. If you have some and you are willing to give them to me, send me a pm, i'll give you my mailing adress and u can send them to me. With these notes I can make a very nice old man smile

Asia. I have one of these notes as well. The Chinese have an annual festival, the Spirit Festival, where they make things out of paper, and burn them to send them to the afterlife for the dead to enjoy, preventing them from disturbing the living. The Bank of Heaven and Bank of Hell make paper money that can be sent to the deceased.

Something I found intresting about the German notes, did you know every city in Germany had their own notes during the WW1? Some of them are really fascinating and makes me sad I don't know much German to translate the stories behind every note. The Germans must have thought to overrule a lot more countries cuz there were notes made for Austria and parts of Africa but never used as the war ended sooner.

Well, not quite 'every city' - there really are a lot...
One must be aware that the German Empire, which was founded 1871, was not totally homogenous, but still retained a certain federal structure. Within it semi-sovereign bodies persisted, the biggest being the Kingdoms of Bavaria, Saxony, Wuerttemberg and the Grand-Duchy of Baden. Those longest held to their privilege to issue Goldmark banknotes, which nonetheless were guaranteed by the Reichsbank.

Cool... Spirit Festival; I remember jang talking about the paper lantern ritual. Some of the things in the article are soulfully funny to me, like seeing Oreo cookies and paper televisions offered to the dead. ;D

This is all very interesting and stuff, but does someone actually has some old bank notes for me then? I know some of you are living in Europe where almost every country uses the Euro now, so it would be helpful if I would get some real bank notes pls

Anything that you can miss as in paper money that isn't worth much to you anymore. I've seen what he got so far and there almost isn't a chance of having doubles since he looks at the signatures as well. If you would send them to me, I can repay the post fees or buy them off from you. If you're not a collector but you got some banknotes that aren't in circulation anymore, you can either go to a fleemarket or send them to me instead. I go Paypal to pay back.
