I was thinking of trying something new out since all of my normal games have become something I play just to pass the time rather than something that acually stimulates me. With my current set of games it feels like I spend 80 % of my brain capacity to lazilly direct my troops/characters to success. And, in the long run, that gets boring.
So I want a different kind of game. Something faster, something more intense. Something where I have to pay close attention most/all of the time to achieve success. I don't know what genre I might be interested in, or how braindead the game has to be, just that the gameplay should be quite intense (imaginative/varied might work too). A good story is always a bonus but it's nothing I care about at this stage. So, ideas?

Mirror's Edge is good action packed fun. The story could be better, but planning and timing your manoeuvres, and the I'm-getting-the-f'-out-of-here attitude is exciting.
I found playing Diablo II as a dual-wield barbarian, that from Act III onwards the fights can get quite intense.
I love No More Heroes on Wii. Imaginative story, complete nonsense adult content, tonnes of hacking and slashing, and awesome boss fights. In fact, the boss fights make this game shine. The fights in between can drag on a bit.

What systems do you have?

Windows. And a SEGA Mega Drive, but I'm not sure how easy it is to get hold of games for that one nowadays.

I'd recommend downloading a PS1 emulator and the ROM for Ogre Battle.
Old School, and 0$ invested if you don't like it.
A couple of links for help,

What kind of system are you running? I can give a list of games and genres, depending on if your PC meets the requirements or not...

I assume that's legal, Nero? If not, delete the links, please.

I assume that's legal, Nero? If not, delete the links, please. Abandonware has always been a very questionable topic... It depends on lots of things - is the game still able to be purchased? is it in print? Is the hardware readily available? Does the game developer and/or publisher still exist? Who owns the Intellectual property rights to the game franchise? Is there a re-release of said game planned soon? Emulators - well, that's another questionable topic, too...

Indeed, D. Anything where copyright no longer exists is likely fine, but if definite copyright DOES exist, I can't see how a game could properly be classed as Abandonware.
Emulators... not sure any games companies have kicked up a fuss over those. Or have they? My feeling would be that as long as they are non-profit making, they're probably fine. They're just a way to play old games, right? Or am I missing something?
(I freely admit my huge ignorance on these matters)

What kind of system are you running? Intel P Quad Core processor (of some kind), GF9800GX (or something like that, it's the dual core verision), 4k RAM. I'm fairly confident I can play everything, even though I might not be able to run today's high end games with everything on max. Übereil

I'd go Borderlands or Left 4 Dead 2 if you have a decent enough internet connection. They are a blast to play multiplayer or so I've heard.

Uh...not sure really. The site is public and has been up for a long time. There's no money involved and the game was released way back in like...1996 I think. Definitely not in production anymore.

Yes but supposedly the law is that you can own a console Rom for 24 hours if you do not own the game. Whether it is still in production or not. It isn't enforced but it is technically illegal.

'Not in production' is not the issue. If copyright is still owned and clear on the game, then any downloading is illegal.
To that end, I am deleting the links.

Game companies don't seem to care that people are playing old Super Mario or Sonic the Hedgehog on emulators but downloading the roms is still illegal if you don't own the physical game. If visit forums about emulators you will receive no mercy for asking about or posting links to the roms of those games, old though they may be.
I pirate them, like I do most everything else. Mario, Sonic, Super Metroid, still some of the funnest stuff to play. The key word here is "torrents." Google it. Figure it out.
Emulators and links to emulators are perfectly kosher, by the way. Just the games themselves are a problem.

Übereil Yeah, you should be able to run like 100% of the new games on the PC market. You on Vista? Windows 7? If you're on Win XP (I still am on XP) - well, you can toss Just Cause 2 out the Windows...requires Vista or Win 7.

I'm on Vista. I could be on Windows 7 (since it's %100 free for students) if changing weren't so much of a hazzle.
I don't want to play some random newest game, I want one that acually fits my desires. One that's certified good, so to speak.

Übereil Just Cause series are basically like GTA - but they're more stunt-orientated and WAY more free-form. The land-mass is HUGE - ridiculously huge. If you buy a Just Cause game, you probably shouldn't be buying it for the main quest - b/c the first game's main quest was nothing special at all. Reviews indicate the sequel is built the same way - but w/ prettier graphics and more stunts (i.e. doing stunts on top of a floating 747 jet in midair). I played the first Just Cause - and the main quest was "okay", but playing free-form and jumping on a roof of a car to another jack, swooping into the windows and jacking the car; Parachuting from out a plane and down into a base w/ guns blazing; base-jumping; and doing all kinds of insane stunts were what made it fun. BTW, Just Cause 1 doesn't require Steam. JC2 does. So, really though - what kind of game are you looking for?

I'm not sure. Like I said, I just want one that requires me to stay alert to make it. Some kind of FPS, maybe, but I'm open to suggestions.
