it's been really nice to find/came back to a place where we can fell confortable and share thoughts/opinions on a friendly way.
as a kind of "front door topic" i thought on a topic where everyone could (if they want to) present themselfs, what brought them here and what made them stay...or other interesting thoughts you care to share.
what do you say gals/fellas?!
well, from my side it goes like this:
My name is Pedro, i'm a Portuguese 30 years old very well married fella living in Paris (it's been 2 years).
I finished my studies at the end of last year, where i was able to get a master degree here in france (it was a long and hard one to get) as a way of having a few more tools for a better professional/social integration...
I've came to this place mostly thanks to Steve (graylensman) who contacted me, letting me know that this corner of the world was created...
A few members are familiar faces, but others are new ones...making a very nice mixture of personalities.
My interests/passions are many, but i'll just point out a few:
- Comics: i'm an hardcore comic geek and proud of it. Being raised up along the adventures of the x-men, amazed by spider-man and suprised/touched by daredevil's world...the comics as a form of art and communication tool always touched me.
- Poetry: i don't read much prose/romances, but poetry i'lm on hell of a library mouse. A big chunck of my teen years were passed devouring Portuguese and internation poets works...Lawerence ferlinghetti, William Blake, Lord Byron, DH Lawerence, and many others are/will always be in my heart.
- Cinema: Eisenstein, kurosawa, Murnau, Fellinni, Werner Herzog, Hal Hartley, Yoshuziro Ozu, etc...are a few masters that i adore, along with this form of art that i think to be one of the most complex/complete ones that man invented/created. I'm pretty much a movie passionated (but not much of the empty hollywood blockbuster machinery, but i'm a fan of LOTR and the first Star Wars triology for ex:)...
- Photography: my fav. form of art as a "creator". complexe and yet simple/acessible to everyone...
What makes me smile: small pleasures in the daily life.
A chat with a friend around a genuine cup of coffee/tea (i'm a coffee and tea lover), wandering by the streets of Paris as if i was lost thinking about my loved ones, reading a couple of comics before going to bed, drinking a small cup of Oporto wine.

Why Not? My name is Phil. I'm a 24 years old American (25 in September), still single and looking for the right girl. I was born profoundly deaf. I've lived in Tennessee for the last 12 years, but have lived in Florida, Iowa, Kansas, and Illinois in my childhood. I'm planning to go to upstate New York in the winter for graduate school. I graduated from the University of Tennessee last January with two BAs, one in studio arts (with emphasis on drawing) and one in art history. I'm hoping to get a masters degree in a photography field and I have been accepted at Rochester Institute of Technology, which has one of the best photography programs in the U.S... I came to this place thanks to the man himself, Elliot, who told me about it. Interests/Passions: - Art History: It's a fascinating subject and there's so much history to be explored. - Photography: Now my career of choice. Took me a long time to let go of my childhood dream of being a sequential artists, I've realized photography is a better dream for myself. I owe my photography professor at UT a lot for helping me realize it. I would also like to teach it as well (if art history isn't an option). - Comics: Grew up on a lot of comics. Currently enjoying japanese comics (manga). Used to dream of being a comic book artist. - Games: Grew up on RPGs and still love them. I used to entertain dreams of being a video game artist, too. - Movies: I can watch anything but horror. ( Have to cut this off due to a storm in my area, be back to add more later) |

Ni Hao? ;D Hi! my name's brandon but my callsign is janggut but don't call me mathilda. i'm already feeling mellow at 30 & not having the slightest idea about boy-girl relationship. i was born profoundly daft but my parents sort me out & now i am normal. i think. i live in Malaysia, specifically in the state called Sarawak which is situated in the island of Borneo. currently working as a techie in a lab whose crazy 'bout 'puters & hardware so yes, u can ask me those techie questions. welcome to Jags Hardware Guide.  as for interests; Music - how can i ever live without it? started out like most kids with pop music then later on discovered rock (Pearl Jam, SoundGarden, Jimi Hendrix, RHCP, Lemonheads, Tool, Dire Straits etc) which after my bout of melancholia gone, i moved on to something more lively & yet ambiguous; ambient (FSOL, Orbital, Aphex Twin etc), classical (Tchaikovsky), soundtracks (all sorts of genre - jazz, orchestral, folk, pop, techno). Photography - used to be armed with an old Yashica fully manual camera & taking photos around my place with my little sis tagging along, now i am thinking of changing to digital cameras, which i am impressed by the almost equal in richness of colour when compared to the old film cameras. very fond of nature photography though not good at it yet. Games - since the first C&C, i have been hooked to pc games & though traditionally i have been a RTS gamer, i have found love for RPGs which are now more endearing to me. Films - Akira Kurosawa, Satoshi Kon, Hayao Miyazaki, Mamoru Oshii etc wasn't really crazy about movies till i fell in love with anime films (thanks to my bro for opening my eyes). Forum interaction - with the Larian forum as a start which i still am an active member of, Chaos is starting to be very very interesting to me with people from places i have never been & to know & learn from them will be a great experience to me. there's more but we can start from these first.  |

Maybe I'll post some of my work eventually.
I started out as a nature photographer, became more of a "life" photographer (taking action pictures of people around me, usually at special events, like parties, but sometimes it's just at random), then tried my hand at abstract pictures and advertising-type pictures (such as of cars), and then started photographing sports for a living, including football, soccer, basketball, and baseball. I've done college sports as well.
I also experimented with fashion and weddings - I photographed a friend's wedding last winter, and got two friends to do fashion poses for me before that. But sports is still really more or less my specialty because I've had so much experience at it.
I primarily use a Canon Digital Rebel EOS 6.3 MP but I also have a 35mm Canon Rebel that I use for black and white photographs.
I don't have a preference; I like both color and b&w about equally. I DO like that the digital allows me to re-check the quality of my photographs so that I can adjust accordingly, and that it will let me take a heckuva lot more pictures on a memory card than what I could have gotten with film.

I'll jump in and share what information regarding my life hasn't been decreed top secret by the government.  Believe it or not, my real name is not Victor Von Doom. My name's Matt (but call me Doom anyway, I have an inferiority complex ;D). I was given the link to this site from a friend on HR (who also happens to be a prominent member of this forum), and I know 13 of the 20 or so members registered. I'm a sophomore in college at the moment, majoring in biology for reasons unknown. I'm engaged, planning on marrying next summer but it could be an additional year depending on my shaky financial situation (damn tuition). In my spare time I enjoy hunting, fishing, drawing, writing, playing computer, and reading comics and the occasional novel (you're probably wondering how I ever got engaged). I believe I've been dubbed a Marvel Zombie by everyone who knows my comic tastes, but I'm fine with that since Marvel is by far superior. I love the outdoors and if it hadn't just rained a crapton that's probably where I'd be right now. My favorite computer games are real time strategy (command and conquer games, primarily), and first person shooters are fun if done right. My favorite movies are Raiders of the Lost Ark, Aliens, and the first two Godfather movies. |

My real name is Alex Gant (no relation to the creator of the Gant clothes line) but please call me Spot or SPS. SPS stands for Stealth Psycho Skeleton. It was an old handle I used on Half-Life. I am 19 years old and currently single. I live in a small town about an hour or so away from Detroit.
I'm currently going to community college to get my associates degree, then it's off to a university to get a masters degree so I can teach college or high school (If I do the latter I will only be getting my bachelor's degree).
Big thanks to Elliot for the ride here (actually a Link but it's just the same).
I know almost everyone here except for one or two new faces.
Interests:
Writing- I love to write in spurts. Right now I have one fanfic series ongoing both here and at Herorealm.com (over 225 hits for 12 chapters and counting) called Limbo Men. It's a semi-spinoff of my on hiatus X-Men fanfics (though I think they are really different stories though you can draw parallels between the two). I have my first solo character fanfic coming up eventually, a Spider-Man one, and I'm also planning on doing a comic strip, and finishing my X-Men fanfics. I also one day hope to get a comic published.
comics- I am a HUGE X-Men fan, and have a bizzarre amount of knowledge on obscure characters. My favorite comic characters are Gambit and Miracleman. I also LOVE the entire run of classic Excalibur to death.
Video Games- A HUGE Nintendo fan, my favorite game is Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time. On average I play 10-20 hours of video games a week, more if I'm trying to beat a game.
Movies- I'm an ecclectic when it comes to movies, though I lean more towards Sci-Fi movies. My favorite movies right now are: A Clockwork Orange, and Schindler's List.
Things that make me smile: Right now, the fact that my friend is going to have a child (not the father). Other than that just being on earth, and having people that care for me around.

Phil My first "serious camera toy" was a Nikon F70 which i learned pretty fast how to take the best of it (using 99% of the time B/W film - Ilford HP5 400ASA). A little bit later on i've had to buy new/decent lens, so i purchased 2 real beauties: Nikon 28mm 2.4D and a 50mm 1.4D!!! These lens are gorgeous ones, cristal clear and perfect for the kind of photography i do (low light environment, film pushed up to it's limits, etc...). Right now i would love to buy the Nikon D70 (it's a digital camera) where i could use my "old lens", so i'll have to buy the "body" only... Hey Phil, did you ever had/photohraph with the rolls royce camera: Leica M series?! A work of art... Hey Doom, congrats!!!  SPS...mircalmeman from the Moore/Gaiman series?! what touched you/appealed to you this major/classical series?! Nice touch on the clockwork orange...  regards everyone, Pedro. |

Basically, what attracted me to Miracleman was that it was unlike anything I had ever seen in comics. Wizard had it listed as a hot book, so to my amazement I found a couple of issues at a flea market. I thought I would pick them up as a possible investment. Just read them once and never again. But the two issues I have left a lasting impression. These comics felt "real" to me. I know two issues really aren't enough to form a proper opinion but the violence, and Miracleman's speech to Gargunza (from issue #7) endeared me. Left a mighty big impression on a 14 year old kid.
I keep on forgetting the URL where they have the entire series online though.
and Just for why I like A Clockwork Orange, I read the book and like the first time I read 1984 it was unlike anything I ever read, then I saw the movie version and Malcolm Mcdowall was just perfect as Alex.

Phil i remmeber at the time i bought my first Nikon, to think/try a lot of Nikon vs Canon and was impressed by both cameras general quality. But imho Nikon is better, but more important it's a camera (the line which i have) where you can control a lot more/personalyse your shots. If you do something wrong you learn a lot...if you do something right you know why, if you're attentive. Yep, Leica is the camera of my dreams, a pure work of art...their lens are like the most perfect/clear human eyes: cristal clear!!! I shot a few photographs once and almost fainted with it...too good to be true! a rolls royce regards ps- which canon/lens do you have?! do you use zoom or "non zoom" lens?! |

They are cute, really cute. I love their curls. I have two little girls who love to have their picture taken. Right now they love coming up with different poses and getting you to make their picture. Also they will be doing something and someone says something about it being cute and they say "Make my picture or Make our picture." Shan |

Shan, your angels are no less cuter than any other angels out there. but i do not see the pix nor the link of the girls u talked about.  Senior Pedro, u asked Phil & i about the categories of phtography we're interested in; i have no idea what i am into but so far i like nature (trees & more trees, plants, flowers, mountains, skies), time-based (morn, noon, evening), lighting or shadow. i'm not very good at classic photography due to my shaky hands (till my dad bought me a tripod) but playing with digital camera is a whole lot of inexpensive fun. i used to save up my monthly pocket money when i was still in school just to buy films (2 rolls, each of different exposure) & developing fees. most of them turned out bad but that was the only way to learn. i have no idea where that old Yashica is now but even the most rudimentary digital camera (especially Fuji) can shoot great pix if used correctly. what i am most concerned with digital camera is the lag time, which is very very annoying. i hate Sony digital camera for this very reason. which is why i love Fuji's Finepix 1200 (japan only) for being true to its point-and-shoot claim. i didn't know Leica M is so legendary in photography. i must be so ignorant then, as i have thought Haselblad is more legendary than any other. maybe u shutterbug experts can enlighten me. |

I loved how it practically destroyed the concept of the superhero by bringing it to its knees in a way only Alan Moore could have done. Plus, it was kind of like watch Citizen Kane, you could see the exact point Moore's influence in comics and storytelling happened. But you do get a lot of that reading his work. |
