I'd love to be in, but I discovered you have to play as a human. Which is a total bummer

The way it will work is, I will create four threads - one for character sheets, one for player discussions, one for questions about the system or game (The only one that non-players will be allowed to post in! and one for the actual game itself. I'll start the story thread by descxribing the opening scene, then let the players get on with it until they require answers or other input from me. That's pretty much how the game will progress, in fact The character sheet thread is for you guys to use to keep track of what is happening to your characters, including equipment, spells gained, etc. This time, I'd like it to be an open process to help any new players see what is going on - and also because with the new system still being in its design stages, it should help me spot if anything is badly wrong. The player discussion thread will basically allow the players to discuss combat tactics and general ideas for the game that might otherwise take up a lot of space in the main thread without aadding anything to the story. The system/game questions thread will allow curious non-players to ask for explanations of things they don't understand, and also allow the players to ask me anything about the system itself that is unclear, or becomes unclear as the game progresses.

I'm interested, but I am lost again. Everybody is talking about building a character and giving it this, this, and this, but I don't understand where they are getting all of this. Just like with Sarah, where did she get these stats HP: 50 AR: 8 (agility+parry) Mana: 60 Speed: 50 Lift: 80 Strength: 8 Agility: 5 (+1 attack) Intellect: 6 Endurance: 5 Skills: Read/Write: 2 SpellCraft: 4 Stealth: 3 Parry: 3 Use Swords: 5 Use Axe: 1 Use Bow: 1 Tutor: 3 Create Weapon: 1 Create armor: 1 I read where you said there would only be 24 points to be used. There are way more than 24 points and so do the others that have posted theirs. And all of this talk about spells, weapons and +1, +2 and strength added to this or agility added to this or whatever means nothing to me. Skills where do the skills come from, how do you put points in them? Is this suppose to be each player playing again each other or are some pairing up to go again the others? Right now I don't think I oculd learn enough about what is going on to participate and not mess things up or hold everybody else up in play. Is there some way I can learn about all this stuff (get some info as to what is happening and why)as you guys play and maybe be able to participate if you ever decide to start another game? Shan

Shan... 24 points go into stats. Another 24 points go into skills. It's a co-operative game, and all players are working together. Think of playing a multi-player computer RPG, only with 1 person in the role of the computer and everyone else as the characters in the party. You will certainly be able to watch the game as it develops, and there is already a question thread where you can ask for clarifications or explanations. You can certainly join in at any point if you want Reading the rules thread should tell you where all the other numbers come from Don't let the unfamiliarity of it overwhelm you. It's a lot easier than it looks If you mastered CRPGs, which I know you have, this won't give you many problems

Shan, don't get discouraged. You're doing pretty well from what I've seen from you so far. I think Elliot has covered most everything well, so I'll just chime in on a couple of things... I can't speak for Awakening, so I'll just speak from prior experience on this one. I'd say it depends on the adventure. Most of the time, the players can work together, or not, as they choose. What a character tries to do is up to the player. This also depends on whether it makes sense for your character to work with others. That said, it usually makes sense for the players to work together. The GM often will throw monsters, villains, or other obstacles for the players to deal with. It pays to be able to cooperate with other players if you want to survive.

I think after all we talked about in character creation, so much just got thrown at me at once with all the rules, stats, skills, and questions about can my character do this or that, that I got lost. Even with the computer games that I have played, I've never understood all of this part and I've just stuck points here and there and picked skills from the list that came up and hoped for the best. I never really knew why I was doing it or to what advantage or disadvantage they were to me. The manuals were of no help and I've never had anyone to try to help me understand what was going on. I think that is why it has all been so confusing to me. All of you have been of a big help, and I am making progress. I'm just not sure I will understand enough by the time you get ready to play to not be a burden or be constantly messing things up for you. Oh, and I like the sound of group play alot better than player against player or pair or groups against other pairs or groups. Shan

I think you're definitely getting there. I don't think you'd be a burden at all, honestly. This is a new system for the rest of us, too. In fact, I think it'd be useful to see how a new player adjusts to the system. We're all bound to have questions as we get through the process. It's your call, of course. In the meantime, we're more than happy to help with anything.

We were all new to playing once, Shan Learning all the whys and wherefores can be pretty daunting, but ultimately it's worth it. Like computer games, there are good and bad RPGs, but the best RPGs - the ones that somehow combine the skills of players & GM into something quite special - those are the best games ever, in any medium I don't know yet how well this new system will work, but I have high hopes for the players Now if only I can remember how to GM after all this time... ;D

Oh do join Shan! It'd be a lot of fun and you won't hold us back. If anything, I'm worried that Will and I won't be able to get on often enough and that we'll slow people down.

I'd be interested in trying too, but I have the same concern than SilvaShadow about slowing people down or not being up to follow the pace.
What's the kind of "rate" at which you expect the game to go, if you have any idea/experience on the matter?
