yeah me three! ;D Fille has a very good question - how 'fast' are we moving in the RPG?
thanks for the questions, Shan. i had the same in my mind.
@ the tabletoppers (EK, mr Grey, Sarah) -> do the stats relate to the skill? what i mean is that if u put a certain value to a certain stat, does it give bonus to certain skill? as in agility might affect tumble? any other weapon other than sword (slash), axe (also slash), & bow (pierce)?

Fille - the game tends to go at the pace the players dictate. In the VERY unlikely event that everyone is on 24/7 it would go very fast, but in reality adding a new post every 2-3 days is likely to be about average. That might stretch to 4-5 days on occasion if people are very busy or ill, and there will certainly be times when the players are doing a lot of character interaction that could be skipped over without harm to your character if you wanted. The only times I would need a response from absolutely everyone before proceeding is if the group are in combat, when all actions will be important. And again, 2-3 days would be fine. The great advantage of the web - there is time *** Jang - there are no concrete bonuses to skills as such from stats. If your skill is being opposed somehow, you will have a target number that must be reached by combining your skill level with the most appropriate stat, but that stat can vary depending on the task at hand. As an example: Swifty must open two locks to get into a chest. The first is an ordinary lock, but the second has several tumblers and is enchanted to reset itself if they aren't all turned in very quick succession. Lock 1 has a target number of 6. Swifty has a Lock Pick skill of 4, and an Intellect (Which he uses to figure out how it works) of 5. 4 + 5 = 9, so he will have no problem at all in opening the first lock. Lock 2 needs speed to open rather than cleverness, so the Stat Swifty will use is his Agility. The target number this time is 9, but Swifty has an Agility of 8, and 4 (his lock Pick skill) + 8 = 12, meaning he will have no problems with this lock either... There will be times when the active Stat could be argued to be one of several, and in those cases the player will get to choose their approach - and thus can use the most advantageous Stat. Hope that helps And don't worry - it really won't be confusing in practise, not least because it's me who will have to do most of the actual working out ;D

Hey, Elliot and Steve, is there anyway I could get an example of what actual play would be like? It would help me alot if I could see what playing something like this might be like. It wouldn't need to be very long just a situation players might face (how it would be worded and all) and how a player would handle it in playing out the situation. Shan

I think I'll begin the actual story, Shan. I'll make the first post, and the players who have already got characters can begin. Then I'll leave it be for a few days, which should allow anyone else who wants to join in to do so - so it'll serve a useful double purpose

I've already posted, Shan. I hope that helps a little. I tend to play web RPG posts as a tiny chapter in a larger story, if that makes any sense. The idea is to describe how your character reacts to the situation. You may want to explore your character's thoughts or feelings about what's going on. Or you may simply decide to have your character do something. It depends on what you think makes sense for your character and you as a player. In my post, I don't have Rasidar say anything, because it makes no sense for him to at this time. But if I wanted to have him speak, I'd probably do it with a format like this... * "Well met, good lady," Rasidar said, bowing courteously to Ashnara. "How may I be of service?" * In the past, we've used italics to indicate a thought. So, if I wanted Rasidar to think something rather than reflect in third person, I might do this... * Nay, I shan't pass this way, Rasidar thought as he noticed the slumbering dragon down the hall. * Edit: It also occurs to me that quoting the player you are responding to is also useful. This allows players to know who you're speaking to. For example... * Callie arches her eyebrow upward with interest as she listens to the conversation. * Of course, this depends on what kind of notation Elliot wants to use. El, is that acceptable, or do you want to add anything? Or do you want to leave it flexible? Seems to me what notation we use is a GM call.

I'll run with 'anything that makes it clear to everyone what you mean' Steve As long as no-one gets confused, it's all good

@ mr Grey -> because stomping on them is much much more satisfying? ;D
guys, i wrote this backstory or background of my character, Homm, & it went out of control. i ended up writing something more lengthy than just a paragraph. where should i post it: in RPG section probably under a new thread for all backstories/background, or should i put in Stories & Poetry section?

Start a thread in RPG by all means, Jang. It's your character, after all

Heh. And here I thought I could be long-winded. ;D For Description, I figure it's good enough that we get an idea of who your character is. Keep in mind that Elliot's scenario specifies that you don't remember very much of your past at first anyway. You can always bring in all the extra information through play.
