Cedric acquiesces to the suggestions of formation while prying the way with his red eyes - while the weak light is quite sufficient for him, he is irritatated by the absence of sounds other than theirs.
"There is no air moving, and no traces of life - not rats, nor bats, not even insects - very peculiar..."

"Okay, I agree to me and Mao being a backup group" Yairn said "I don't have any globes or a pouch but when we need to signal back Mao can just use hers."

Ash over hears what Yairn says, looks at him, smiles and says "Yairn, I think Mao had some extra globes and I'm sure she would be happy to share one of them with you. We could also probably come up with somthing you could use to cover it or make a small pouch to carry it in. In fact I think it might be a good idea if we all had a way to signal the group in some way instead of having to rely on another member to do it. We have no idea what is up ahead. If something happens, some of us might not be able to signal the others."
She then looks at Mao and asks "Mao you had some extra globes, didn't you?"
*************
Looking over at Cedric, Ash smiles and says "If I find some, I can send them back to you if you want."

Mao takes a globe and a pouch and hands them to Yairn. Then, frowning, she takes off one of the blanket strips she gathered and gives it to Yairn for him to make a belt of it, so he can attach the pouch and have his hands free for some other use.
"It is... but they have nowhere to hide with these plain surfaces; maybe are we too far from the exit, or that this place is too new, too. Or maybe is there something that repulses them... ? Mao whispers.
She concentrates her attention on what is in front of the group, ready to back Ash and Homm up.

"Or maybe when we opened the door Ced scared them all away," said Ash with a grin.
Turning serious she adds "There is something very strange about this place though. No insects, dust, or anything like that and the walls are just to smooth. I think it about time we find out the reason though and see if we can't get out of here."

Homm squints at the dark corridor, not quite knowing what to expect out of it.
(EK - what's the distance between two flashing globes for all the globes lighting the corridor)
" ... Twould seem to me that Ash and Homm should go forward, though I will consider other volunteers should any of you wish to accept this duty." Rasidar
Homm heard his name but keeps quiet as he tries to smell the air & to feel on his skin if there is any draft that he failed to detect earlier on.
no smell, no air movement, no sound at all.
with the width of the corridor about 10 feet, Homm thinks of moving on the right side while Ash can move on the left & slightly behind him. when he hears of Stelrein's idea of using the globes as light signals, he knows that should justify Ash following him as he is still uncomfortable with people too near to him and with Ash so far being talkative, he's afraid she might give them away.
Homm coughs then pauses for a while before saying, "i want a light globe." he is still facing the dark corridor. after a moment passed & with a softer voice, "...uhh ... please?" his back is still towards the group, not daring to face any kind of reaction.
Homm sighes. maybe an explanation will help.
"i ... uhh ... at some parts where there might be traps, perhaps we can roll the globe over just to make sure." Homm keeps quiet for a while. then he continues, "we can always retrieve it."
(EK - is the surface reflective? any soot on the wall or floor? Homm is considering to use some soot to camouflage himself)
without waiting for an answer, Homm moves towards the open door, kneels right at the doorway, with his left hand on the floor & the right on the wall. his head lowers to the floor & his eyes closed.
after a few moments, Homm raises his left hand & snaps his fingers in a constant timing, with his head cocked towards the corridor. his eyes are still closed.
(EK - is there any echo? how is the interval between the snapping of finger & the echo? short or long?)
leaning farther towards the corridor, Homm slowly opens his eyes to the darkness ....

Homm
There are no globes lighting the corridor that are not carried by your group. Or none that are working, at least.
The corridor is just stone - no reflectiveness - and clean. VERY clean for a corridor. No soot or other dirt in sight at all.
The finger snapping doesn't get any real echo - but you'd have to be quite close to some other surface for that to work, I think.
The darkness is definitely total beyond the reach of your globes.

Homm turn back to the group, "i discern no echo & i think there is no corner nearby. this one is probably a long straight dark alley."
he looks back into the darkness again, & once more he closes his eyes with his hands on the floor & right wall. well i hope someone will agree to rolling that glowing globe since i do not have the eyes of a wood elf, Homm thinks to himself.

Stelrein looks at Ash, "That would be a good idea. We could use them as food," he stops, realizing that Ash was joking.
Uncomfortably, he moves to Homm and hands over his globe, Stelrein simply says, "I'd like it back, if possible." Before Homm can roll the globe, he suggests to the group, "Prepare your weapons."
~~~
Loriana stiffles a giggle at Stelrein taking Ash seriously, but then sobers at the thought of having to eat rat or bat. A sour look crosses her face.
Homm feels Stelrein's hand touching his left shoulder & when he turns around he sees a glowing globe right in front of his face.
"I'd like it back, if possible." says Stelrein.
"uhh.... yes," Homm awkwardly & takes the globe from Stelrein with both hands. he feels the weight & it was smooth & warm from Stelrein's hand.
"thank you", Homm says, remembering that he is no longer with his own people, the outcast of society. i have to watch my words. Homm sighes as he hold the globe close to the ground & eyes closed again, this .... manners & uh.. politeness - how annoying!
To Rasidar: "I will galdly take my position in the second rank ready to offer ranged support if necessary, however it is probably best you are aware that I have some scouting ability myself." See then takes her position
Mao takes another blanket piece from her pouch and gives it to Homm. "Here, so you won't be a walking target," she adds.
"But wouldn't something else than a globe be better for this, say some piece of wood from a bed instead? If we roll these globes ahead, it's quite pointless for us to hide, no?" she whispers.
Ash stands there listening as Homm expresses his thoughts. "Go around snapping your fingers, rolingl a globe, what is this guy thinking of," think Ash. "He's going to let anyone that might be hidden around here know where we are. I thought this little sneak was smarter than that. You never give away your position until you are ready to pounce for the kill."
**************
Turning to Rasidar and Stelrein she asks "Are you guys going to let him get us all killed? If he rolls that stupid globe down the hallway some body could see the light moving and know we've gotten out or they could hear it and know something is going on or it could roll into a trap and blow us all up. We're suppose to be quite and check things out not let them know we're coming. If we find traps we are suppose to try to disarm them not blow them. How can somebody be so dumb?" she asks definitely showing her irritation with Homm's idea.
Then looking at Stelrein she says "Bad move giving him that globe. He's gonna mess things up for sure. You just wait and see."
Yairn took the cloth, globe and pouch from Mao and smiled. "Thank you" he said. He quickly made a belt and attatched the small pouch to it. He then placed the globe inside the pouch so the light would not be seen. Yairn was ready to go but being the backup, he just waited quietly for Ash and Homm to prepare. But from the looks of things they were already arguing. If they were going to get through this thing intact then they'd all have to work together. But already friction was becoming apparent. But deciding that he wasn't in a position to, he left the sorting out part to Rasidar and Stelrein.
Stelrein turns to Ash and Mao, "At this point, if there is anything to fear out there, I'd rather know about it, even if it gives us away because that is our only way out. Once we have more options to then we can concern ourselves with keeping quiet and hidden. Considering the noise we've made so far, I don't think anyone is out there. Not in this section of the complex, whatever this place may be. But we do need to know if there are any traps or surprises down the hallway." pointing back to the room, "Considering the magical devices in there, I would be most worried about non-living things."
Stelrein looks back towards Homm, "Considering the way he's been acting, I think he's come to the same conclusion." Turning back to Ash and Mao, "I'd also like to see what's out there. And that's why we use a globe. Besides, a globe can roll farther than a stick can."
Turning to Rasidar, "I think a third scouting party might even me necessary. Scim is obviously qualified, but we would need another person to go with her. Do you have a suggestion as to whom?"
"If we need a third scouting party, I would consider Loriana to accompany Scimitar," Rasidar says to Stelrein. "She scouted the last chamber most effectively. I also concur that Scimitar is most qualified of those of us remaining to scout."
He then turns to Homm and Ash, who are bickering over the globe. Rasidar is surprised at this.
"Hold, comrades," he says with greater firmness than he'd shown thus far. "If you must argue, do so quietly and reasonably, lest our presence here be compromised. We have no one to rely upon but each other. Division amongst ourselves only helps our enemies."
Rasidar's voice resumes its even tone as he regards them again.
"For now, I would agree with Stelrein. Traps may well be the more likely threat. Though I would recommend that you take caution before rolling a globe. `Tis likely to make noise as well as light. We know not how far this passage goes."
Ash looks at Stelrein and says "You're the boss soldier guy. I will do whatever you say, but let me make sure I understand what I am suppose to do."
"The plan is for Homm to take the lead down the corridor, snapping his fingers and rolling the globe. I follow a short distance behind double checking to see if I come up with anything that he might have missed. Then Yairn and Mao follow us holding even further back. Whatever Homm finds I signal them and then they pass the signal on to you guys, right? No problem. I can do that," she says with a smile looking over at Homm. "I'm sorry. My fault. I thought we were suppose to not let anyone know that we had broken out of the room. You take off and I will follow."
She then looks at Yairn and Mao and says "I'm going to give Homm a couple of minutes and then follow him. You two follow when Mr. Soldier guy gives you the word."
"At your service," Mao says with a nod.
Turning to Yairn, she adds: "I don't know for you, but I prefer to take the stealthy way nonetheless; if someone/thing notices the others but not us, it can prove to be one more strategic chance on our side."
"Let's go before our feet try to build roots here," Mao says to Ash and Homm with a wink.
Ash looks at Homm and says "I'm ready when you are. I will wait here until I see your globe rolling and then I will assume that you have gone to retrieve it and that all is safe so far. I will then move down this wall in stealth mode," indicating the one she is closest to. "Hopefully if someone or some thing sees the globe or hears it I can get a signal to the others that there is trouble up ahead without being seen. "I will also check to make sure that the globe did not miss any traps along this wall"
"I should be able to tell where you are from the light and sound of the globe, so I will be able to move when you move," she says. "If you need us signal other wise we will continue to back you up."
******************
Ash stands there a moment as if she is thinking about something seriously. After a moment she turns to Rasidar and says "Mr. Knight, I've been thinking. Maybe Yairn should follow Homm instead of me. If Homm comes upon a locked door, I would be no help at all to him but Yairn could move in and help. He knows how to pick a lock. I have no idea of how to even start. I could play backup with Mao. I know how to do that." she adds with a grin.
Mao takes another blanket piece from her pouch and gives it to Homm. "Here, so you won't be a walking target," she adds.
"errr....", Homm again is caught in awkwardness.
"But wouldn't something else than a globe be better for this, say some piece of wood from a bed instead? If we roll these globes ahead, it's quite pointless for us to hide, no?" she whispers.
first it was Ash. now Mao is also being nice to him. why, asks Homm in his mind, does it mean i don't stink like a beggar anymore? Homm's nose wrinkles as he tries to detect any stench coming from himself. . . . How can somebody be so dumb?" Ash asks definitely showing her irritation with Homm's idea.
that one shocks Homm, leaving him with his eyes wide & mouth gaping. wh.. wh.. what?! nasty all of a sudden! why that conniving ....
Stelrein looks back towards Homm, "Considering the way he's been acting, I think he's come to the same conclusion." Turning back to Ash and Mao, "I'd also like to see what's out there. And that's why we use a globe. Besides, a globe can roll farther than a stick can."
another shock for Homm, again with his eyes wide & gaping mouth. wh.. wh.. what was that? first a tongue lash, now a compliment? Homm asks himself in disbelief. this time, he's facing Stelrein. . . . "Hold, comrades," Rasidar says to Homm & Ash with greater firmness than he'd shown thus far. "If you must argue, do so quietly and reasonably, lest our presence here be compromised."
what?! me again?! i am gaping speechless over here! thinks Homm to himself with his shocked countenance facing Rasidar.
"For now, I would agree with Stelrein. Traps may well be the more likely threat. Though I would recommend that you take caution before rolling a globe. `Tis likely to make noise as well as light. We know not how far this passage goes" says Rasidar again.
well of course! Homm again rambling in his mind. do i look like a wide-eyed fool with a gaping mouth? . . ... with a smile looking over at Homm. "I'm sorry. My fault. I thought we were suppose to not let anyone know that we had broken out of the room. You take off and I will follow," says Ash.
Homm's wide eyes & gaping mouth is now back at Ash. "i.. i.. ," Homm trying to say something. .. bah! women! . . . "Let's go before our feet try to build roots here," Mao says to Ash and Homm with a wink.
Homm regains his composure. he wants to say something earlier on. something about the rolling of globe & his snapping of fingers. but at this juncture, he doesn't feel the urge to talk anymore. Homm sighes, enough of social interactions for today.
he proceeds to crouch at the doorway with the globe concealed in the cloth provided by Mao.
... perhaps Mao is right. perhaps i can combine the use of a long stick with the globe to find us a way in this darkness. but do we have enough of a long stick to do so? & to move with that, it's really cumbersome. & Ash ... & Ash ... .
Homm's face turns to a slight frown. his eyes lowers to the ground in front of him & he sighes loudly. he makes an effort to turn to Ash but his eyes stay to the ground & says in a low voice, "i did not mean to wake any danger to prepare for us when i snapped my fingers. i only want to find out the distance of this dark alley. i must admit, at best i can be in shadow walking, my human eyes cannot pierce this thick darkness. unless we have a wood elf with us who can help us see through this. and .... the globe, i admit not thinking too far ahead about the implications. that is the best that i can think of."
"Maybe Yairn should follow Homm instead of me. If Homm comes upon a locked door, I would be no help at all to him but Yairn could move in and help. He knows how to pick a lock. I have no idea of how to even start. I could play backup with Mao. I know how to do that." Ash says with a grin.
"uhh.. no!" Homm waves his hands, "no problem at all with you as my partner. really!" Homm realises what he just said & he blushes, so he faces the dark corridor once again.
