Homm
Doesn't stink. None of you do. The training probably made a few people a bit sweaty, but you were all really clean when you woke up.

Ash smiles and says ''Stel, thinks your idea of rolling the globe to detect traps and snapping your fingers as you go down the hallway to check for an echo is a good idea Homm. I just didn't understand that we were suppose to try to draw the bad guys out if there are any around. I'm sorry I got mad and said your idea stunk."
Looking from Yairn to Homm and still smiling at him, Ash says "If Mr. Knight and Stel agree, I really think Yairn would be a better partner for you since he can pick locks. You may need someone with his skill to open a locked door and I have no idea how to do that. Mao and I can hold to the shadows keeping hidden, and be your backup if you need us. We can also signal the group that there is trouble up ahead if you find anything."
Then with a grin she says "Just be careful Little Sneak. I don't want to lose my new friend."

Rasidar nods. They were having some trouble working together anyway, so just as well. At least they were getting along better now.
"`Twould perhaps be workable," Rasidar says. "If Yairn is willing to change squads. Alternately, I might allow you to switch with Scimitar. Either is more than capable for the task at hand."

Yairn listened quietly as Ash suggested he go with Homm. He didn't mind switching squads as long as the group started getting somewhere. "Well I don't mind switching squads at all" Yarin said, stepping forward with a slight smile "But to pick the locks efficently I'll need a small peice of wire or something similar to that."

Stelrein speaks, "I didn't mean for our entire scouting mission to be snapping fingers and rolling globes. I just suggested it for the first few corridors so we get a feel for what this place is like. Once we sufficiently understand the area, then we switch scouting tactics to a more stealthy approach. But for the time being, since this place is completely unknown to us, I rather expect an attack now than try to creep by something or someone that may or may not be there. This way we can all be alert for an attack." Stelrein nods to Homm and Yairn, "If you've decided to group, then move ahead."

"Homm, it is up to you?" says Ash looking over at him. "I think we should get moving though. We're never going to get out of here if we don't."

Homm kneels quietly as Ash speaks to him, then continues to be silent as the others speak of changing formations. oh well, Homm in his mind sighes, whatever they like it to be, so long as things do not get too difficult later on.
when Stelrein gives a go-ahead to Homm & Yairn, Homm turns his head to Stelrein, saying "sir ... Stelrein, sir, i.. uhh.. there won't be anymore finger-snapping. that was just a test to see how far this alley goes in a straight line. besides, beyond this point, i agree that might invite danger but rolling the globe may be the only way until there is light to be found in this ... tunnel. ... uhm.. if i may ask, Stelrein sir, ..and also if others find it reasonable," Homm pauses for a while, "can everyone remain in total silence when entering the tunnel? .. i.. since eeyes will be rendered almost useless in this thick darkness, i hope that hearing may compensate."
"'tis only a suggestion, sirs." Homm addresses the group.
"Homm, it is up to you?" says Ash looking over at him. "I think we should get moving though. We're never going to get out of here if we don't."
Homm shuts his eyes in irritation & grits his teeth to stop himself from saying something nasty.
then he faces to the doorway again, eyes slowly open & starts slowly to advance until the faint light from the room fades & his eyes can no longer pierce the dark. he can feel the weight of the globe tied to his waist as he inches forward using his hands to feel the right wall & feet to feel the floor.
(EK - how far can Homm go without using the glowing globe to light his way? is the floor even? since the even-ness of the floor will affect the distance of the rolling.)

Homm
You can travel the first twenty feet quite easily without any further light than that which the others are shining from the doorway.
The floor is very even the whole way.
Now you have advanced as far as you have, you can see that after the twenty feet there is an intersection, with passages off to left and right, and the original continuing ahead of you.
There is nothing but darkness straight ahead, and the same to the right, but you think you might be able to see the faintest glimmer of light from the left, though it's too far away for you to be certain.
The darkness in all directions is very deep, and defeats your eyes.

Homm can see there is an intersection after moving a small distance from the doorway. both the main path which is in the middle as well as the one to the right are too dark to discern whereas the one to the left seems to have a faint glimmer. but that is too early to tell, Homm feels, so he turns back to the group waiting at the doorway to tell them of his findings.

Ash waits and then follows very quietly almost as if she was an animal stalking its prey.
She knows that Homm and Yairn are up ahead and seem to be safe at the moment. She can see their silhouettes in the dim light a short distance ahead. She closes her eyes hoping that some of the senses she had learned from her animals friends would take over and let her feel her surroundings.
Slowly she reaches out and touches the wall and runs her hand over it carefully. Smooth or so smooth, but there was a strange feeling about it. It was just to smooth. She then crouches down and feels the floor in front of her. All seemed to be OK, so she moves a short distance forward running her hand along the wall feeling as she went. She lets her foot be her guide, gently touching the floor and moving it around to make sure there were not unseen traps she might step into. Every now and then she would stop and run her hand over the floor and hold it there to see if she could feel anything and then she would move on as before never making a sound.
When she reached Homm and Yairn, she could see what might be the tinest shimmer of light down the left passage, but in front of her and to her right seemed to be completely dark.
Not quiet ready to tell the group it is safe to advance Ash turns to Homm and Yairn and says "Homm, Yairn why don't you go straight ahead a short distance to see if there is any sign of light that might be seen further ahead. Mao and I will go to the left, and check things out there. If there seems to be no immediate danger then we signal the group to join us here and let Mr. Knight and Stel decide what we do next. Sound good to everybody?" she asks.
Turning to Mao Ash says "Let's go. I'm going first to check for traps and you follow close behind. As they move down the left hallway Ash runs her hand along the wall feeling it carefully and feeling the floor carefully with her foot. She stops every now and then to check the floor carefully with her hand. It takes a little longer this time because she checks both walls and the floor feeling them carefully while Mao keeps watch to see if there is any sign of trouble.
*E - do Ash and Mao find anything down the right hallway, any traps, any sign of light, or run into anything or anybody? *

Mao touches each one's arm to get their attention, and whispers as softly as the others could understand her and making signs: "If we go each team our way, we should get some back up ourselves; before we split our ways I'll go search for the third scouting team. OK?" To Ash: "If it's ok, you should begin to search for traps around, in the meantime... ?"

Yairn listened to Ash's plan. He nodded and whispered "Ok". Then, Yairn started moving up the coridoor straight ahead of them. He made sure his steps were silent and his eyes kept darting from the floor to in front of him. He kept to the wall, his left hand feeling along the wall while his feet moved slowly along the floor.
This was where he felt most comfortable. In the darkness of the shadows where now eyes could see him.
But he kept checking up ahead to see whether any lights were at the end of this coridoor.

ShanIt's up to LaFille to say whether her character is going or not, so I'm not going to answer that

Yairn
After only a few steps straight ahead, it's blacker than midnight. Walking carefully as you are, you have no problems going forward, though. After what might be anywhere from 15 feet on, you feel a solid surface in front of you. There are no openings to your left.

As she sees Yairn already making his way forward, Mao turns back to Ash and whispers: "Nevermind, then; let's go." She thought that unless the passageways lead very far, the distance was not so big that the others wouldn't hear if anything wrong happened anyway. If it did, they could always turn back and get reinforcements later.
So Mao follows Ash through the darkness of the left corridor, as silently and carefully as she can, trying to notice anything her senses could tell her about what's around/ahead.

"Sorry," Mao," said Ash smiling. "I just assumed you would come with me. If you want to go back and tell the others what Homm found then I will wait here and when Yairn and Homm get back they can go search the right hallway too."
Ash then sits down in the middle of the intersection to wait on Homm and Yairn to get back from checking the corridor straight ahead and for Mao to return from letting the group know that Homm had spotted a shimmer of light and that they were going to check the other corridors a piece also.
When Homm and Yairn got back from checking the corridor straight ahead, she would ask them if they would check the corridor to the right.
She would sit here and wait for Mao until she returned from talking to the group and finding out what they should do next. Maybe by that time Homm and Yairn would know if anything was down either of the other corridors.

"No, no, we should go" Mao replies, sorry that she caused all this pointless noise. "If the passageway leads so far we'd be out of reach of sound, we'll decide then whether we better get back up/reinforcement. We better see before, then decide."
She gives her hand to Ash to help her to wake up, and would follow her through the corridor when she'd go.

"If you are sure Mao," said Ash taking Mao's hand and standing up. "And don't look at me that way. I was just sitting on my knees so that I would be less likely to be seen while everybody was gone," she adds with a smile."
"Then let's do it," said Ash with a smile at Mao.
*I'm not sure how to state this since I can not say Mao and Ash seach the hallway, so I hope this is correct*
As she (hoping that Mao is with her) moves down the left hallway Ash runs her hand along the wall feeling it carefully and feeling the floor carefully with her foot. She stops every now and then (hoping that if Mao is with her that she too will stop and wait on her) to check the floor carefully with her hand. It takes a little longer this time because she checks both walls and the floor feeling them carefully hoping that if Mao is with her that she will keep watch for any sign of trouble.
*E - do Ash (and if Mao went with her) find anything down the left hallway, any traps, any sign of light, or run into anything or anybody? *

Mao follows Ash in the passageway, remaining a few feet behind not to bother her in searching for traps or unusual things there may be on the walls or floor. She walks with her back on the wall to be able to scout in every direction. The thin light brightens as they advance through the left passageway. Mao searches for air drafts, themperature change, light, noises, dust... anything that could be more instructive than these flat naked stone surfaces and this immobile darkness...
(Elliot: Is the passageway they're in curves in some way? Do they happen on anything special? And what kind of light is that that comes from the left corridor?)

ShanThat's fine LaFille has agreed that Mao is going, so you can say 'Ash & Mao' with no problem Ash & MaoThere are no traps, and the corridor goes forward in a straight line for around twenty feet before you reach the source of the light. It looks like a faint line - like the edge of a door. The temperature closer to the light is very slightly greater than that in the corridor. You probably would not have noticed a difference if you weren't actively paying attention to it. There are no other off-shoots in the corridor, and nothing unusual except for the too-smoothness of the wall and floor. The light shining through the crack is brighter than you would get from a single Light Globe.
