Character SheetCharacter Name: Karl Tanaka Race: Human Player Name: Elliot Kane Physical Description: A man of very mixed ancestry, it is impossible to tell at a glance where Karl comes from. He is tall, quite lean, and bald - a family defect that has started to crop up in his line for several generations. His skin looks tanned all year round, and he has strong hawk-like features and dark brown piercing eyes. Background History: Karl has travelled widely, sampling a great deal of what Earth has to offer, and he is frankly bored with it. He has the soul of an adventurer - an explorer - and everything on Earth has been explored long since. It is this restlessness and boredom with Earth that has compelled Karl to seek out new challenges among the stars. When the time to blast off comes, he will have no regrets... His family were once important, long ago, and still preserve their ancient heritage. Karl can trace his ancestors back through many aristocratic lines in many countries, and while this holds little meaning for him, his family have retained an interest in the art of swordsmanship - an art that has always fascinated Karl, and one which he seeks to master. As this ancient weapon now seems rather obsolete, Karl is doing his best to create a modern version - a Light Sword, with a laser blade instead of the traditional steel. Karl's preferred fighting style is to use an energy pistol in his left hand and a sword in his right, though he has been known to duel wield two energy pistols in a pinch. He is trained in both Eastern and Western styles of swordsmanship, though he is still far from a master. His sword closely resembles a katana, though not quite. Karl is ambidextrous, or as near as makes no difference. He is 23 years old. Marius Benedict: Character Name/Robot Nickname: “Marius Benedict” (assumed name); Torvald Kohl II (birth name) Clone Batch Number: XBP666 (Experimental Behavioral Protocol) Race: Clone Player Name: Steve (Gray Lensman) Physical Description: Marius is a large, physically imposing, and noticeably well-built man. (Think Jayne from Firefly and you have the right idea.) Age: 3 biologically, but looks 25. (Note: Marius has all the knowledge of the original Torvald Kohl, who was around 40 at the time of his death.) Gender: Male Height: 6’5” Weight: 200 lbs. Hair: Brown Eyes: Blue Country: United North America Job: Mercenary, professional adventurer Marital Status: Single Children: 1 daughter. (Technically, she’s the daughter of the original Torvald, but she regards the Marius clone as her father. Marius adopted her out of feelings of conscience for Torvald’s bad deeds.) Personality: Marius Benedict is heading out into space because he wants freedom from society’s rules. While he has a conscience, Marius lives by his own code of conduct and tends to reject restrictions imposed on him by other people. He can seem hard-edged and cold at times, and loud at others. Still, he’s honorable in his own way and will go to the end to keep people alive if called on to help. Background History: The man who became known as Marius Benedict is the genetically modified clone of a ruthless killer named Torvald Kohl. The original Kohl was killed by UNA Security at the end of a long crime spree that included numerous counts of murder. (Kohl declared that he would rather be dead than jailed, so UNA Security obliged him. ) Not, however, before the UNA took a cell sample and a braintape from Kohl. Some time following this, the UNA decided to try cloning to test an experimental behavioral modification process. The clone was given all of Torvald’s knowledge in addition to various implants designed to make him a productive citizen. The experiment worked, but only partially. The test succeeded in giving the newly created clone a conscience, but failed to make him a completely law-abiding citizen like they’d hoped. They’d failed to account for Torvald’s independent streak, even if they curbed his more dangerous impulses. After a time, the clone began to plot escape, tiring of being poked and prodded and weary of what the clone considered “damn fool paternalistic coddling”. The clone rebelled against UNA control and escaped from confinement. Using Torvald’s knowledge, the clone found a way to disappear and then took the assumed name of Marius Benedict. Not, however, before he rescued Torvald’s daughter from UNA custody. Seeking to escape rules and conformity, Marius left the UNA and took various mercenary jobs for other countries, spanning all the known worlds. However, he always felt confined by the restrictions of society, even in the outer planets. When Marius learned of the New Home project, he signed up in the hopes of escaping the UNA for good and finding a planet where he could be free to live on his own terms… HP: 100/100 AR: MT: N/A Skills: Fitness: 10 Use Projectile: 10 Use Grenades: 5 Piloting: 10 Armor Proficiency: 5 Survival: 5 Combat Maneuvers: 5 Stealth: 10 Mind Tech Powers: None Robot Areas of Knowledge: None Weapons in Use: Weapons & Armor: Reinforced Uniform that has 3 in each defense Reinforced Head Gear with 1 environmental. Julie Benedict: Character Name/Robot Nickname: “Julie Benedict” (assumed name); Ingrid Kohl (birth name) Race: Human Player Name: Steve (Gray Lensman) Physical Description: Julie is a slim and slender figure of a girl. While there is some resemblance to Marius, Julie takes after her mother in appearance. She’s pretty, in an ordinary way. Still, she has a pleasant smile and a look of wide-eyed curiosity about the world. Age: 18 Gender: Female Height: 5’2” Weight: 100 lbs. Hair: Blonde Eyes: Blue Country: United North America Job: Student Marital Status: Single Children: None. (Marius tends to kill boys who take advantage of his little girl. ) Personality: Julie is an innocent idealist who dreams of creating a better world out in the stars. She comes across as a refined, elegant, and graceful young woman who seeks to advance civilization morally and scientifically. However, Julie is also her father’s daughter, and has a certain mischievous desire for adventure she can’t easily quench… Background History: Julie Benedict was born Ingrid Kohl, the daughter of a killer named Torvald Kohl. Torvald abandoned her mother when Julie was very young. Some time later, UNA operatives killed Julie’s mother when she refused to hand Julie to the government for her own “protection”. The UNA hushed this up, telling the world that Torvald killed her before the UNA finally shot down Torvald after the end of his crime spree. However, the UNA had two reasons for taking Julie into custody. One, they saw her as potentially useful leverage against Marius Benedict. Secondly, after a series of tests, Julie proved to be a Mind Tech of great potential. The UNA raised her in a specially designed orphanage, where she was raised by UNA handlers in isolation while they trained her to develop her abilities. They intended to raise her to be a civilized young woman, in an attempt to weed out her father’s influence. The UNA promised to return her father to her when their process was complete, but it was a promise they never kept. In time, Marius Benedict took it on himself to keep the promise. Following his escape from UNA custody, he mounted a successful rescue of Julie from the orphanage. When Marius left the UNA to embark on his career, he took Julie with him. Marius covered his tracks, giving Julie her new assumed name as she helped him on his various jobs. In the meantime, Marius used his earnings to finance Julie's education. When she learned about the New Home project, Julie jumped at the chance. Seeing the hope of making a better world out in the stars, she accompanied Marius, the only father she’d ever known… HP: 60/60 AR: MT: 50/50 Skills: Commanding: 0/0 Mind Tech: 0/5 Technician: 0/5 Medic: 0/4 Communications: 0/4 Use Energy: 0/4 Use Hand-To-Hand: 0/2 Armor Proficiency: 0/2 Fitness: 0/2 Domestic: 0/2 Mind Tech Powers: Battery Charger Computer Knowledge Machine Operation Mind Technician Machine Disassembler Weapons in Use: Weapons & Armor: Reinforced Uniform that has 3 in each defense Reinforced Head Gear with 1 environmental. Character Name: Eduardo Del Sol Race: Cyborg Player Name: Metalliman98
Physical Description: Eduardo is 25 years old, 6’2’’, 245 pounds, brown eyes and hair, and brown skin. Everything below his solar plexus is cybernetic, and has been covered with synthetic skin to give it a normal appearance. To look at him, you would have no way of knowing that he is a cyborg.
Background History: Eduardo is a citizen of Allied South America, born in the region formerly known as Honduras. His parents own and run the family farm which has grown quite large since the world began turning to Allied South America for its food supply. Ever since he was a child, Eduardo was raised with the expectation that he would eventually take control of the farm. While he enjoyed working the fields and developing newer and more efficient ways to produce food, he secretly dreamed about going beyond Earth and exploring space. In his spare time, he would study the physical sciences and everything he could about space. But he knew he would never be able to live out his dream. As the eldest son, he had a duty to his parents to continue the family business. Still, Eduardo spent many a night lying in the fields, looking up at the stars and dreaming.
One night while he was star-gazing, Eduardo fell asleep. He awoke to the sound of a tractor. One of the farm hands had gotten an early start on the day’s work. Unfortunately, the farm hand did not see Eduardo, and before he could react quickly enough, the farm hand had run over the lower half of his body, crushing it completely. Eduardo was rushed to the hospital, where it was determine he could not survive without undergoing a cybernetic operation. His parents quickly gave consent, and after a long series of operations, the lower 60% of his body became completely cybernetic.
After the operations, Eduardo found it difficult to return to work at the farm. The accident left him traumatized, but such was his loyalty to his family that he went back to the fields as soon as he was able. When the news broke of the shortage of Earth’s resources and the New Home Project, Eduardo desperately wanted to volunteer, but would not leave his family. His parents, however, knew of his dreams, and gave him their blessing to join the project. Eduardo vowed to do everything he could to find a hospitable planet and ensure the survival of his parents’ farm.
