Seeing that Melissa doesn't seem in a state to talk, Mao decides to take on herself to tell it. Cedric's intervention strikes her; she hadn't thought that Project Awakening could also not be intended for the events apparently taking place in Davor at the moment.
As Ash goes to Cedric and manages to get his attention in her own particular way, appearing not to have understood what was said, Mao decides to turn to Melissa in the meantime, intending to answer to Cedric after, when he would have answered to Ash; she would likely have for some time to babble and is not the kind to be easily ignored, so with a point of mischief she leaves Cedric or Rasidar, whom she seems likely to distabilize, explain her what it's about.
"You said that Project Awakening was only five years old..." Mao says, turning to the young research mage. "But was it when it was created or simply when it began to be running? And what was its initial purpose, do you know?"

JJ giggles seeing the girl run up to the mage and begin questioning nonstop about time travel. She smiles broadly, thinking that that was something she would have done when she was younger and had little attention to give to rambling adults. While she knew she was older now and supposed to act mature, there was something genuinely fun about this girl's perspective on life.

Mao
"Five years ago." Melissa nods. "Veryn needed funding for it. I remember there were so many rumours going around the court about what he wanted funding for, exactly, but he'd never tell anyone. Well, except the king I guess... I was barely more than a kid at the time, but it all sounded terribly exciting. It was supposed to be something that would guard us against future threats, but I think the future caught up with us faster than anyone imagined."
She takes a deep breath, looks Mao in the eyes. "No-one expected Lord Gryphon. I don't think Project: Awakening had anything to do with him, really."
Her eyes drop, and she frowns in thought. "Lord Veryn summoned a Djinn to guard you all, though. So you're obviously very important somehow..." She doesn't sound totally convinced, and her next words are filled with doubt. "Maybe he discovered you all sleeping?" She shakes her head. "It sounds so unlikely..." she sighs. "I don't see how a group of sleeping people could save Davor from anything...."

Stelrein makes sure to be very observant of all the activities going on. When he sees that Cedric is occupied with Ash and Mao with Melissa he walks over to Rasidar and speaks with him.
He gestures to Cedric and Homm, "We might want to call this meeting off soon. Some of our members seem to nneed rest. As for identities each of us might want to reflect on any possible enemies we had in the past."
He gives a shrug towards all the conversations going on, "As reassuring it would be to figure out why we are here, I believe it would take the better part of a year to rationalize through all the possibilities. I would suggest we focus on what we want to do as a group. We'll probably need to hear what everyone has found out first of course."
As almost of an after thought he adds, "you might want to ask for volunteers when it comes to assigning tasks."

Cedric gives the girl in front of him a blank look. Since his focus was somewhere else, her sudden appearance in front of him, and that avalanche of questions totally out of context of what he was saying overwhelms him.
"You want to travel through time? With me?" he sorts her words shaking his head. "But I just said, that..."
Then he shrugs his shoulders realising that the girl didn't listen to what he had said. "It's not possible, Ash, the paradoxon..."
He interrupts, looking at Ash's sparkling eyes and the excitement mirrored in them. "This is not the moment for technicalities." he thinks, and just says, "We have forgotten our magic, Ash - we would have to find a time warp spell scroll to learn from first."
"That should keep her busy!" he giggles inwardly.

from behind, Homm grabs Ash's right hand, "and on that note, we depart for essential nourishment." he drags her to the door.

Ash jumps and lets out a small scream, as Homm grabs her from behind. She quickly turns around and exclaims "Homm, you scared me. What are you doing over here? I told you to stay put, to wait for me, to not move, to sit where you were until I got back." As he pulls her towards the door, Ash pulls her hand from his and says "No, no food now. I gotta talk to Mr. Mage. Now you go back over there and sit down until I get through then maybe I will get you some food. If I do though, you gotta go head hunting with me." She then opens the pouch with rations in it, takes out a couple of pieces, hands them to Homm and says "Here take these. Now be good. Go back over there, sit down and eat them and wait until I am finished." She then turns and walks back over to Ced, looks up at him, the time travel disappointment still clearly showing on her face, and says "Sorry."

* in reply to Cedric's post *
After getting free of Homm, Ash walks back over to Ced and says "Sorry."
"You mean you can't take me without your spell?" asks Ash her face and her voice clearly showing her disappointment. "Then we're stuck. Rats," she exclaims as she stomps her foot. "Ooooooooo, just when I thought something exciting was...(shift in thought)...needs spell....time warp...spell, spell...to travel, go through time.....how...." Her face fills with puzzlement and she wrinkles her nose. It is clear that she is trying to figure out if she had seen or found a time warp spell and hadn't known what it was."
Suddenly she smiles as an idea comes to her. She remembers the mirror she had seen in the head mage's room. "Maybe.....just maybe.....well, it was worth a try." Smiling she looks again at Ced, as some of the sparkle returns to her eyes, and asks "What about a time portal?" If I found one of those, would that work? You wouldn't need your spell and you could still travel in time and take me with you.
I found a great big mirror in the head mage's room. I can't see myself in it. I can see the room, but I can't see me. I even took one of my pouches and put it on the floor. I could then see the pouch, but I still couldn't see me. There is something really wierd about that mirror though, cause when I looked at it with the other magic mirror that I gave to Mr. Knight I saw lots and lots of mes. They were all dressed differently, kinda like they were from a different time. One me even had a dress on. Yuck," she exclaims. "I looked like I was a lady. That was really scary, cause I sure don't want to be a lady. You gotta learn all this etiquette stuff and you can't have any fun cause people expect you to act oh so proper. One me was even a vampire. Now she was soooooooooooo cool. I don't want to be a vampire either cause you can't run and play during the day. She still looked really cool though and it sounds kinda cool to get to sleep in a coffin.....I really think that mirror goes somewhere. I couldn't find out how to use it though. Maybe it is a time portal and would take us through time if you could find a way to open it. I'll help ya."
Then another thought enters her mind and she asks "Mr. Mage, do you think that mirror could take us to another world, one kinda like ours but not really ours? You know a world that is going on right now and one that we exist in too, one where we are living a different life. Oooooor maybe we were taken from one of those other worlds and brought to this one. Maybe the mirror is the doorway to different worlds."
Ash stands there shifting from one foot to the other, almost bouncing, looking up at Ced. She can hardly wait to hear his answer. It is very clear that the excitement has returned with the thought that maybe she had found a way for Ced to take her with him without a time warp spell.

"A group of sleeping people from archaïc times and without memory, even less..." Mao thinks. She frowns and nods to thanks to Melissa, not sure what she wants to think about them being "the hope of Davor". That sure makes her uneasy; and the feeling to have been stripped out of her life without her consent to be imposed that makes her burn against that Veryn guy.
She forces herself to turn her full attention back to the present and observes around; now Stelrein is talking with Rasidar, Ash and Cedric are not done yet... Homm now seems wide awake, at least, and Jack even seems amused of the situation.
Mao stretches a little, and tries to follow the conversations going on, observing everyone around but deciding not to intervene yet either. At least, this little burst of action had for effect to awaken everybody and ease the atmosphere, which is a good thing...

Cedric listens to Ash, though his eyes are searching for support from being overwhelmed by the flood of words and information - "Does she ever breathe when talking?" he wonders shortly - At the end he holds up his hands in resignation.
"I would have to see - and even then, I might not know, having forgotten so much, or I may never have known. A portal it might be - but through time?" He shakes his head unbelieving.
He turns to Zumir, and asks him, "Zumir - do you know of a way to travel through time, or have you heard of such as being possible?"

Cedric
Zumir shakes his head. "My people know of no method to move through time," he admits. "If such a thing were even possible, it would take a mage of true genius to discover how."

"That's what I thought," Cedric mumbles and nods.
"See Ash," he says, "I was saying that as a virtual impossibility. As much as I would like to, and the others too, I gather, and as exiting as the thought indeed is - but I do not think that there is a way back in our time. I assume this project is a long on-going one, for many centuries and in total secrecy, it seems. Its original purpose may have been thwarted or changed - more than once, for all we know - actually..."
He turns back to Zumir again. "Has anybody yet asked you, how long you have been here, guarding this section?"

Cedric"Roughly one turning of the moon," Zumir nods. (GM note - I THINK this is right, and confirms what Zumir said earlier - but if anyone remembers differently, please let me know. Thanks

"No, no, Mr. Mage," says Ash shaking her head. "Didn't you hear him good? He didn't say it wasn't possible. He only said that his people didn't know of a method to move through time. He also said that if it was possible, it would take a mage of true genius to discover how.
Don't you know that the head mage guy, Veryn, was very smart maybe even a genius. I think he could have found a way and I think the mirror might be that way.
Come on, Mr. Mage, you're really, really smart. If Veryn could figure it out, I bet you can too. It might take you a little longer since you've forgot all of your magic, but I still think you can do it. Please Mr. Mage, you just gotta look at the mirror and see if you can figure it out how it works," she pleads with such determination it is obivious she has not given up on the idea of being able to travel through time or to another world "If you can learn how it works then we can go to the future, to the the past, or wherever maybe even to another world. Please, don't give up without trying."

"Oh yes - I will want to see it." Cedric looks at her. "When we're finished here and when we've rested. For now we must endeavour to gather more kowledge of this institution."
His gaze catches Melissa, "You were a research mage, you said - do YOU still have your magical abilities, other than being exhausted from your ordeal? Do you still have your full knowledge?"

Those mirror things intrigue Mao, but she decides to wait to learn more about it when the others would say what they found. Thinking that the moment could be good to tell the rest of what she learned from Melissa, she decides to go on and tries to get people's attention back.
"I think I still have some little advance on you on these points," she says aloud. "Perhaps we should put what we found out in common first, before trying to continue to investigate... no?" she adds softly, looking at Cedric.
"Working for Veryn in Project: Awakening were eight research mages," she begins. "Including one whose speciality was time," she adds, winking at Ash if she looks her way. She continues immediately not to lose the attention she could get: "The others were specialized in alchemy, scrying, wards, illusion, healing, and mind magics... The eighth is Melissa, who was specialized in light and working at improving the globes."
She glances at Melissa to see how she reacts, as well as to the others, to try to see what impact these info have on them. If nobody intervenes and if she's listened to, Mao goes on explaining the rest of what Melissa told her about the project, who was involved/working for it, for how long it was running, how long the young resarch mage had been part of the project, the episode of the battle and Lord Gryphon, etc.

Cedric nods, and continues to listen - while in the back of his mind, he thinks, "So it's really only us 'sleepers' who lost abilities. It must be in conjunction with the process of keeping the bodies, better than ever, for centuries... - but if they could do that, why not the minds?"

Mao
Melissa looks quite nervous when her part in Project: Awakening is explained, as if she is expecting to be blamed for what was done to you all. She stays silent, and doesn't look at anyone.

Ash turns her head and sort of listens when Mao begins talk. She notices Mao wink at her when she mentions that time was one of the research mages speciality. Ash giggles. Mao had definitely gotten her attention now. Ash grins at Mao as she thinks "I'm right. I just know I am right. These guys knew how to travel through time and I bet that is how they got us here. I bet that old mage Veryn traveled to our time and kidnapped us and brought us here to be part of some research project they were doing. He didn't want us remembering anything so her used some kind of mind spell on us to make us forget everything. Who knows this may just be an illusion and we just think we woke up."
As Mao names off the specialities of the other research mages, Ash nods her head and says softly to herself "Illusion..... mind magic..... yeah they've been playing around with our heads and making us think things that are not true..... (shift of thought)......I hope Mr. Mage meant it when he said he'd look at my big mirror. I still think it is a portal and I bet it is a portal for time travel."
She then remembers that she had told Homm to go sit down and wait for her. She looks that way to see if he had done it.
