Hello,
as you might know, I'm a fan of The Dark Eye RPG system.
The system is more or less bound to a single world, Aventuria.
The last games for this systems are the "Realms of Arcania" series ("Arcania" in this title stands for "Aventuria" as far as I know), Drakensang (currently in production), LMK (cancelled), Armalion (Cancelled, later turned into Sacred), and some games for mobile phones / cellular phones.
You can learn more about the system - in its current edition, the 4th, from the web site of the company providing the games for cellular/mobile phones: Chromatrix.
You can learn the main rules here :
www.chromatrix.com/html/tde-mobile.html
The whole system is explained very nicely in English language there.
(Note the navigation buttons on the left !)
This is the main, official site regarding this rule set :
www.thedarkeyerpg.com/
It contains rather general descriptions of this system.
Wikipedia also has an article on it:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dark_Eye
The world Aventuria - rather a single, yet huge continent - is in a time which looks like some kind of Middle Ages or Renaissance here in Europe. The setting is developed for this.
Myranor, or - as it is also called with the official, German-language name of "Güldenland" - is another "setting" or "continent", which reflects rather some kind of "high fantasy", with some very weird - compared to Aventuria - creatures.
Myranor, however, is the distant and long-forgotten origin of most of Aventuria's nowadays citizens - they are refugees, in a way, because they left Myranor thousands of years ago.
There are natives in Aventuria as well, and most of them have fully integrated into Aventurias societies. Some have not, however, especially the lizard-like creatures, which still have their own cultures, but their high times have been thousands of years ago. Their great cultures have fallen long ago, similar to the Maya of real life, for example.
Others are the Dwarves and the Elves - the Elves also had some kind of a "high culture", which has fallen down long ago.
Most notable, however, is that Orcs have their own culture, too. They are NOT cannon-fodder, but instead they have their own culture,no matter how crude and brutal it might appear to any Aventurian citizen.
Gods in this world are really there and active - they can do "wonders" and "miracles" and are ble to actually help their priests.
In very, very, almost extremely rare cases, they have appeared on Aventuria themselves.
As like in almost every RPG world, things are changing - often to the worst, creating a need for "heroes". So it is in Aventuria. The evil Borbarad has been defeated several years ago (almost ten years, I guess), and in recent times the "Year of the Fire" destroyed much of what was a fixed point in the main realm of Gareth (which is the main and biggest town within Aventuria).
Much has changed in the recent years (not always favoured by the fans), and Drakensang is just another chapter in the long, long history of this continent.
A set of beginner rules is due within the next year, as far as I know.
I don't know, however, whether it will be translated into English as well.
But rumors say that Drakensang might contain P&P contents for playing this system as well.
Anyway, a real P&P adventure for P&P is - as far as I know - actually planned - it will build upon Drakensang.
I think that's it for now.
And last: A thread over there at RPGWatch on the Realms of Arcania series:

Have fun !
