Have any of you guys been on a diet lately? I'm starting the weight watcher diet next week and have made a serious attempt at changing eating habits lately. That meaning less chocolate, low fat meat (and less of it), no sauce, less soda and even much much less beer (believe it or not ) Looking forward to beginning the diet and want to hear if any of you has been on some succesful diets and has some good low fat recipies

LESS BEER!?! Peter, what's bloody wrong with you? -SHARK DIGGLERYeah, it's a hassle but beer and diet don't go hand in hand. Anyway, I'm not in the mood for beer right now anyway. Last time I drank I had such a damned hangover and quite frankly became more drunk than I should've been of the relative middle amount of lager. It's because the heat is getting to me. It's been really hot for our standards and somehow my body can't mix alchohol and heat. Really haven't got the slightest interest in drinking at the moment

That meaning less chocolate, low fat meat (and less of it), no sauce, less soda and even much much less beer (believe it or not ) Looking forward to beginning the diet and want to hear if any of you has been on some succesful diets and has some good low fat recipies the best "diet" is a well balanced meal/eating habits... a diet changes a lot from person to person, from case to case...so in the end, if you're tihinking on needing one, first consult a doctor (if possible a specialist) present your situation so he can build/adapt a diet to your eating habits/possible extra weight...don't jump "head front" on pseudo-diets that you see on magasines... regards

I switched to drinking only water for a whole year based on hearing a professional football player doing the same thing, and ended up in the best shape of my life. Didn't change anything else.
Of course that probably wouldn't work in places like, say, Mexico...
Another plan I tried that succeeded for a while was eating only half of every meal when I normally would eat everything. After a while you start mentally treating it like your normal ration. But the worst time to do this is when it's cold (winter) and your body WANTS more food.
As for candy, treat it like what it is.. a treat. At the end of every week, if you've been a good boy, have a bar. It doesn't really hurt in the long run. Excess is the main thing you have to watch out for.
Edit: The worst thing you can do to yourself, though, is not eating breakfast. Always eat breakfast because when you go to sleep your body ends up in a hibernated state and it will store up food to keep it running. Then in the morning if you haven't eaten breakfast your body goes into "danger mode" and stores more... guess how... by creating fat. > I had to learn this the hard way. Eat cereal or something.

Oh I should probably mention that I do exercise regularly by walking or swimming or whatever, and used to play football and rugby and all that, so exercise probably helped me a bit when I was on that water diet.

Good advice Phil. Like you said, breakfast is very important. Whether you eat breakfast food or something else, everybody needs breakfast. When we have left over pizza, I love cold pizza for breakfast. I also like cold left over stir fry for breakfast. ;D Shan

I made kind of a diet last year : lots of going by bycicle, and lots of tasty soup. Soup fills the belly and recharches your needed amount of liquid your body needs. I read somewhere that one shouldn't do that too long, because of loss of vitamines ...

Well, I can't stand either Wiskey or tequila, truth be told but some gin and vodka might do the trick. Still it's not a cozy as sitting a bunch of friends and drinking beer

Shan Well I do go to the gym and that's a start. I usually burn 200 - 250 calories per visit and train muscles. It's taken a bit to get used to but I'll visit four times a week probably. I don't think I will fall back to my old eating habits reguarly but once in a while I might. I start an official diet tomorrow and plan to keep it. My biggest problem will be the beer and I know I'll drink two weeks from now but hey..it's summer, the gang is going to an amusement park so I'll sin for that one day ;D

Diets don't work.
Lifestyle changes do.
I personally, have lost 60 pounds over the last 2 years, and now am near the level of weight I'm supposed to be for my height.
Know how I got that far?
Porportions.
Thats it, I just cut back on how much I had, and cut pop from my lifestyle. Really, that simple.
Its not a "diet" people need, its a lifestyle change, it has to stick. Once you'vel ost the weight, you can't just go back to the way things were.

I think dropping soft drinks do have a tremendous effect. That's why I think my water diet was so effective, but obviously it didn't result into a lifestyle change for me. (Just couldn't stay away long enough.) But man I'll tell ya, the first time I had a soft drink again I just couldn't stop, it tasted so good. So if you're planning to drop pop from your life entirely, you pretty much have to commit to it or you'll just get addicted all over again.
