Written by Paul DiFilippo Art and cover by Jerry Ordway ABC. Get ready for a new 5-issue miniseries written by science fiction author Paul DiFilippo (The Steampunk Trilogy, Ribofunk) with art by Jerry Ordway (ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN, TOM STRONG) that catches up with the officers of Precinct 10 five years after the events of the SMAX miniseries! Find out what's been going on in the lives of Toy Box, Kemlo Caesar, Smax, King Peacock, Joe Pi, and many others - plus meet several new and decidedly unique cops. Each and every one of them will be needed as they face dangers from both outside their ranks and among themselves! 1 of 5 32 pg, FC $2.99I'm really looking forward to this. Even though Moore and Ha are not on it. I actually don't mind Ordway so the art's not that big of a deal, even though I'd much rather have Ha. Don't know anything about Paul DiFilippo, so I'll have to wait and see on him. I'm pretty sure this thread will be seeing a lot of action -SHARK DIGGLER

He's no Moore, obviously, but... I have to check this out. I miss Top Ten too much NOT to... Thanks for the preview, Shark

Really disappointing that Moore isn't part of this. It's just not quite Top Ten without him. Still... might look at it. I'll think about it. Good to see Girl One got a replacement, though.

Read it. Very poor start, I thought. The new writer hasn't grasped the idea of subtlety, and I don't think he has the faintest idea of who most of the characters are. This didn't work on any level, for me.

I wasn't really taken with it either. But then, I was afraid of a letdown, since Moore isn't writing this.
I might just skip getting the rest of this mini and just grab the Forty-Niners HC. I'd probably get something more worth my money.

The 49ers is well worth it Steve. I finished it off the other night, all in one go, and I started it around midnight. Definitely holds your attention. The Vampire Mob/'Evening Folk' are one of the best things about Top 10 for me, and they are a main part of the story. Plus Ha is even better on art than he was on the first series, if that is possible.
I'll probably pick this up in tpb, but those faux-Claremont opening pages don't give me much hope for it being great. Please, no more baseball/volleyball/barbecue opening scenes ever again!

Written by Paul DiFilippo Art and cover by Jerry Ordway ABC. The thrilling 8-issue miniseries continues! After the startling events of last issue, the cops of Precinct 10 are understandably ill at ease. Not only is Traynor - a.k.a. Jetlad - deposed as head of the department, but his replacement is...well, see for yourselves! Plus, the robotic mystery deepens! 2 of 8 32 pg, FC 2.99-SHARK DIGGLER

Got The 49ers yesterday and it's... OK. Not really up to Moore's normal standards, though. The art is gorgeous, but the depth of characterisation isn't really there and the story is solid but unremarkable. It's good enough by normal writer's standards, but not a patch on the original Top Ten series.

Issue two is a slight improvement, but my expectations are currently very low indeed. The parallels with modern America are far too heavy-handed, and not made with the fine subtlety I would prefer.
