With the new X-Statix mini coming up as well it feels like the ol' glory days again, the X-Statix/New X-Men combo. Would love to see Mr Sensitive interact with the team, hell, have him join the team and squabble over the leadership with Alex. Doop is a great sign though. Is he 'what Lorna saw' in space?
I've enjoyed Milligan's run so far in the trades that have come out and read and in illegal downloads (cause I'm buying the trades. It's only half-stealing ). It's good. I'm a bit surprised there's not more of a 'buzz' around about it, especially among the more 'traditional' X-Men fan base, although that does seem to be slowly changing. For my mind it's much better than Astonishing, which has way better art but is a bit too much of a sleight read. I do prefer Milligan's more ironic style of writing, which seems to have gelled not bad with the mythos, compared to Whedon's more conversational humour style.
The middle parts of Golgotha were pretty good, especially as just single issues and not one big story arc, and Bizarre Love Triangle was good as well. I like when the writer's go into detail more about the ethics/culture of mutants rather than focussing on bit characters, instead really try to build up the fictional world a bit more. It's in line and resonates nicely with Morrison's stuff on NXM with the telepathic sex therapy/affairs, U-Men, mutant culture and the rest of it. It's really new territory for them to go into, rather than the well mined old tropes, and if I'ma going to read an X-Men comic I do want to see some new stuff explored.
And while the Black Panther crossover was just alright, you can't complain too much when you get some good mileage out of the Red Ghost and his super-apes.
Just change the artist please Marvel. While I don't mind Sal, I don't think he's been that great on this book. He just doesn't seem to have meshed that well with Milligan. Guess I've just been spoiled with Allred and the artists on Human Target who did mesh very well with him.
