...Going blind in my old age! Well, blinder... You're right, Hec, it's only Thing missing.
SPS - I'd say you're right.
DC is likely to be Supes, Bats, GL (Hal Jordan), Flash (Wally)... and I'm not sure of the other...

well, if it were up to Didio I'm sure Donna Troy would be in the top 5 (remember how he hyped her as one of the[/b] most beloved DC characters EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Personally Supergirl could be a suspect as could the character formerly knwon as Superboy - but hey, I thought Wolvie would definetly be the number 2 character so who am I to guess

I'd be surprised if Donna Troy made the list... (And yes, i AM too lazy to check! ;D).
I thought you'd be right on Wolvie, Peter. His popularity has clearly slipped a bit after years of more over-exposure than a flasher in a strip club. I suppose it's weird he hasn't slipped more, in a way...

I'd be surprised if Donna Troy made the list... (And yes, i AM too lazy to check! ;D) So, you're saying Didio is wrong?!? My word, how dare you speak against the man responsible for giving us monthly comics starring Wonder Woman, Superman, batma.....oh wait.. ;D I still remember his half hearted lament when Blue Beetle kicked the bucket reassuring us the best was coming yet - because one of the most beloved DC characters ever was coming back in the form of Donna Troy! This countdown is surely rigged - the fans are mistaken. Donna IS a top five icon while beetle lingering in the top 15 is simply wrong - he should be far lower. And why? Because he was a member of the Giffen/DeMatties League (and Didio said so) !!! And, btw, I feel stupid for forgetting Joker as well. The rest of the top four is most likely the one Elliot gave us in the form of BAtman, Superman, GL and Flash.

I suppose it's weird he hasn't slipped more, in a way... Well, I'm still waiting for the oversized "Wolverine/batman : with enough prep time.." maxi series where the dynamic duo throroughly trashes Spectre, Galactus and pretty much both universes because it's totally in character for Bat-God and Wolvie!!!

Now for #3
Marvel: Daredevil
DC: Flash (Wally West)
For some reason I never considered DD a top character but I think it's cool that he made the list as he was the first character that Stan Lee created that didn't take off immediately.

I'd never have guessed DD that high myself, honestly. That should put Cap at #2 and I'd certainly have never imagined he'd get that high, either. Amazing what dying can do to a guy's popularity.

True E. I still had him placed in the top 10. But it is very shocking that he is #2.

I think Cap's a great character and have done for a long time. I never really thought of him as a popular character, though. But then I was sure Wolvie would be #2, so what do i know? ;D

Now here is the moment you've all been waiting for the top 2:
DC: 2. Superman 1. Batman
Marvel: 2. Captain America 1. Spider-Man

Cap did make it at two! I was half convinced he was out of the top fifty rather than being that high, honestly! Not bad, for a dead dude ;D
Spidey is unassailable, and I think we all knew that.
I think I find it most interesting that DC's top characters were more easily predictable than Marvel's, I must admit. not sure quite what that means... Could be said to be an advantage in either direction, really.

For some reason I though that some obscure character would've made it into the top 5 had Cap not made it. I'm actually very suprised that some of the characters made it as high as they did. I mean Cyclops making the top 10 was certainly suprising to me.

Overall, not a terrible list. It's just interesting to see the results here. Some of this may be based on what's going on in comics right now and current fan interest. Cap is riding high off of Bru's run, Civil War, and now the big death arc. (Which I think is an absolute joke; there's no way Cap will stay dead when Marvel brings back sacred cows like Bucky and Mar-Vell. But I can't deny it's raised interest.) DD is another Bru character, built on a popular run preceding it. Wolverine hitting the low he has is surprising, but it could well reflect the overexposure and lousy writing of late. On the DC side, not much surprise there. Batman and Superman were bound to be the top two, and Hal and Wally both recently returned under popular writers. That sounds like a pretty fair list to me. Joker is vastly overrated, but nobody's perfect. ;D An interesting poll, though.

Not many surprises there, Superman and Batman are DC's two most popular characters, with the later surpassing the popularity of the former for years.
Marvel second choice was a little surprising. But Brubaker is currently writing the best run that book has ever had, with critical acclaim left and right, and the recent exposure due to Civil War helped quite a bit.
Spidey being tops is quite a testament of the character's strenght and wide appeal. I mean, the books have been sucking for more than a decade now, and he's still one of the most beloved characters in comic books.
