Some cool stuff here. Interesting to see how the creative process developed on the original New Mutants, and what Bob McLeod contributed creatively. I find it curious that Kitty and Karma were pitched as being part of the lineup, when Kitty was at best a recurring guest star, and Karma was never really around all that much. I can quite believe that Claremont was lured away from his original ideas, but in those days what he came up with ended up being a lot better. I have to credit Shooter for resisting upper management trying to milk the brand and sticking to what made the books work creatively. He turned out to be right too... the talent was what made the X-titles as good as they were back in the day. Sadly, we've seen what happened after they did proliferate the line... they ran it well into the ground. This is the kind of editorial leadership that Marvel's been lacking for far too long. Team America was absolutely silly, though. Not hard to figure out why we've never seen those characters again in twenty years. ;D
