I find it very strange. I have never had a file disappear on me like that unless I over wrote it by mistake. Did that once. Made me mad too. Phil, are you sure they are actually getting on the cd? I mean have you gone immediately after burning them and looked at the files? I think you've got something on all of us. If you ever run it down, tell us so we can be sure not to do it. Shan

Yes, I have looked at them after the result and they were fine.
Then one week later, some of the files disappear and say that I cannot open them.
Soon after that, they're all gone, and the CD is unusable.
I think it may be a result of saving too much to the CD at once, though. I've been trying it again with new CDs, except 6 volumes at a time. That seems to work, I guess because it's still about 45% free.
But still, it's weird, yes.

Phil - Do you have that problem with other CD's that you create? if you don't then it might be wise to check to see if you are copying shortcuts to the CD rather than actual images. Also are you finalising the CD or leaving it open?
Shan - The main feature in opera that I find useful is mouse gestures that allow you do do most commands that you would want to do without having to leave your mouse. (RC + drag down = open new page, RC + drag up then down = refresh, RC + drag down then right = close current tab/page, etc.).
The other really nice features are that you can change the mode you are looking at the page through with user mode being the default, then author mode (takes out all formatting) and some other adjustments you can make to author mode.
The F12 menu that allows you to block popups or unblock them, turn on and off java, javascript, plugins, sound, and more.
And finally there is a button that allows you to instantly turn off all images on the page, and a zoom feature.
All I can suggest is that you try it and see what you think.

Philster >
I have the same problem as you, but it is due to CD-ROM drive incompatibilities vs yours and other computers.
For example: I burn a disc on one computer and everything shows perfect on the disc. I put that disc on a different couple of computers and it still shows a-okay. But for some reason there is this one computer at my job that only one item will show on that disc.
Is that what seems to be happening to you?
Oh, I use WinXP. Opera Browser Mainly. IE when I have to.

DragonLord, thanks for the info about Opera. It sounds like it has some cool features. Do you know if Opera is strictly for Windows or is there a version for Linux? Shan

Also are you finalising the CD or leaving it open? No. The other CDS I create are for photographs, though (since I am a working photographer). It seems to only affect PNG files which is what my manga files usually are. Never had a problem with JPEG files. But something tells me that's not really it. They are actual images, not shortcuts, I think. I may have not been finalising the CDs. The one CD that did work (and has so far worked fine so far with six volumes on it) something happened when I ejected it - it said it was doing something to ensure that the CD was being finalized. That didn't happen before. That's another problem I have been having: ejecting these CDs. On my hard drive, these CDs won't eject when I press the eject button (I have no trouble with my game CDs however, Baldur's Gate for example). I have to press eject on my taskbar to get it to finally open. By the way I am using Memorex Ultra Speed CD-RW's. Phil - Ah, I've had that problem at work, what I found was that I was burning the CD's at a faster speed that they could take, and so the data wasn't writing correctly, and some other drives couldn't read it. So if you choose a slower speed, that should take care of the problem. Shan - Yes opera comes in linux flavor, I think they also have a mac version too if you wanted one. There is also a mobile version. So take your pick

You are using a CD-RW. A CD-RW is set at and requires a slower burn speed than most CD-R's today. Tsel

Thanks for the info, DragonLord. If Opera comes in a Linux flavor too, I'm impressed. ;D I've never used a Mac, so they can keep that one. ;D You and Tsel seem to be pretty much sold on it. I might just take a look at it. I am happy with Firefox right now, but who knows it could always be good to have a backup. Shan

Shan > The great thing about Opera is that it installs itself in a single small folder. It does not throw out a ton of tentacles like other browsers do, so if you do not like it uninstalling it is a breeze. Tsel

IT HAPPENED AGAIN!!! All the files disappeared from my CDs!!! I _am_ pissed!~
Fortunately this time I still had all the files on my hard drive, so I don't have to download them all over again.
I think it's because my InCD program is out-dated or doesn't work for Windows XP. Not real sure, but it might have been because I had been formatting discs with it. So I deleted it and I'm trying to figure out a good progam to use. Any suggestions guys? Thanks.

get CDBurner Xp Pro which is a freeware. can't remember which site i got it from but i guess u can google it. sorry.
anyway, as for the disappearing files on recordable cd's, let me ask; how do u keep the discs? do u often put them on the table with the underside (not the label side) exposed to light? if u do, then be sure that u have allowed the disappearance to happen.
we know very well that cd writing is based on optical technology. this means using light to burn. well sunlight is light, table lamp gives out light, flourescent lamp gives a lot of light; which means u have slowly allowed those light to break down the dyes on the cdr. which means the discs end up 'empty' again.

Hey, I didn't know you were hooked on Firefox too. I've never used it with Windows but I am very pleased with it for Linux. I also use Thunderbird for email on Linux. Some around here are sold on Opera. Have you ever tried it? I downloaded it and was going to try it on XP, but I haven't gotten around to installing it yet. I rarely use Windows on the net though and that is why I am slow getting around to it. Is that a good enough excuse? ;D Shan

I'd say it was, do you run linux for web browsing? If you do, why now download it for linux?

yes, i use linux for all web browsing unless i have to get to a site that forces me to use ie. most of the time i just say forget it to those sites though. i don't like going on the net with windows. as to why i don't try opera for linux. i just hate putting out the money for it and then possibly not liking it and going back to firefox. shan
