Thanks Peter. These were some great games. I am really glad they are going to continue them. Any idea whether they will continue the Might and Magic series as well? Shan

Never played "Heroes of..."
I did play the original Might & Magic games though from I to V.
"Heroes of..." are strategy games, right?

Rght, Phil.
Turn based, but remarkably interesting despite that.

From what I heard about the original Might and magic games, they pretty much flopped while the heroes line took off, so they pretty much just concentrated on that.

While this is good news, I'm also hesitant about getting too excited.
You see, we loved the third game, though I still have a fondness for 2 since I played that one the most before introducing Will to the series and he bought 3.
We have 4, and while I really like getting monsters every day and being able to split off monsters into a little group and the items for the hero and even having the hero in battle, I didn't like the combat system. We could never figure it out.
It always seemed like the computer could fight through walls, but we couldn't. They always had their archers-types on the high ground, but ours never were. We just could never win.
And Will didn't like the town building where you had to make a choice between two types of creatures and once you made one, you couldn't get the other.
So I'm wary of how this new game will be because if we can't figure out the combat, then the rest of the cool additions won't matter.
And we'll just stick to the 3rd game.

Fighting through walls in IV was a matter of if your opponent is right next to the wall you can wack him. However if you step back from the wall they can't attack you.
As for the town buildings, if you have a choice, I would suggest going for a flyer or ranged over ground, unless you have teleport.
Also all cities as they are upgraded get the towers for the archers to stand on. But you need to build up the defences for them.

Another problem I had was moving on that screen. Never seemed to move in the direction I wanted the creature to go. Makes sense. It just seemed that when I had archers, they never were on the towers in battle. Do I have to place them in a certain spot in the town line-up? I have to admit, we didn't give the game very much time. But we spent at least 3 afternoons trying to figure it out and when we couldn't figure out the battle system, we went back to 3.

For moving on the screen there is an option in the combat screen menu that will overlay a movement shadow onto the screen. This shows where the current unit can move to.
As for getting troops onto the towers, I think the towers are occupied by the back row of troops (every other troop) . the best way to work it out is to see what troops are on the towers and then replace them with the ranged troops. That should also tell you which spaces are for the back row.

From what I heard about the original Might and magic games, they pretty much flopped while the heroes line took off, so they pretty much just concentrated on that. It was one of the first role-playing games I've ever played, so it's sad to see it become a washout. I guess I'll give "Heroes of" a try, even though, it probably will be a completely different game. Yeah, Josh, I was surprised to hear you praise these games. You never talked about them.

Whether they were a success or a flop, I really enjoyed the Might and Magic games. I can't remember which one now, but in one of them it was very hard getting from one areas to another, because when your character reappeared in the new area you were immediately jumped on by tons of enemies. Sometimes a real challenge to get out of. I enjoyed playing them alot. Shan

Yep, Shantara, that sounds like a M&M game alrite. My dad and I played them all the time, sometimes together. It's one of the few RPGs I'll remember fondly as kind of being a father-son event for me when I was a kid. It's also what made me love fantasy so much.
What were kobolds? What were orcs? What were hobgoblins? They were all new to me back then.
